I had to watch this movie a second time before I could really appreciate this movie. I then bought it and it is at the top of the list of movies I own. It has good action but is not an action movie. It is more of a drama and showed the heroes in the movie to be "regular" guys that were brave enough to serve and suffer in war. My grandfather was in WW II and I could not help but think about those who served bravely. The acting was superb and it is amazing to see such a movie of high caliber that was made on such a small budget. The comments about Mormons and the like are not appropriate. You could not even tell Corbin Allred was a Mormon. He just appeared to be a tormented yet religious person. Watch it without distractions. It's worth it.

This film was made and released after Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers so I hoped it would be similar. In fact it was awesome.
It is set in Dec 1944 and details the US Prisoners (POW's) battle for survial after the Germam army's counter offensive in the Ardennes Forest, in Belgium.
Many Allied soldiers are captured during the counter offensive and a small band of American soldiers manage to escape. However they no longer have any weapons or food, ravaged by the cold, the men are determined to make it back to their own frontline. But as their perilous journey takes its toll, loyalties become divided and lives hang in the balance.
A mesmerising, hallucinatory journey thorough the hellish landscape of war ravaged Europe,based on real life events this film tells the story of ordinary men and the mission that made them heroes.

fantastic war pic , great story line , has good as band of brothers .got the film recommended glad i bought it . watched it 3 times now , go on buy it , if you like war films you will love it .

It could be a very good movie with five real movie stars and some changes in the dialogues,however the fighting is good and you can watch if there is nothing better around.

Movies like this dont come along very often, the fact that the movie was based on a true story made me want to see it more. The story of a group of American GI'S who are rounded up and are about to be executed in cold blood, then a struggle occurs with many of the captives fleeing through the forests, a group of young GI'S form together to find a way back to their respective armies.
The film however is somewhat tinted from the very start as the film starts out in the present then goes back three weeks, we know that one of the characters dies in the film as his body is found in the snow leaving for a predictable end.

Saints and SoldiersIf you like films about the Second World War you will enjoy this. The acting is first class. It deals with a small band of soldiers from different units thrown together by circumstance and trying to walk their way through enemy lines to safety and to provide vital information to the allies. It also deals with the affect that shell shock has on one particular soldier and how others percieve him. I thoroughly enjoyed this film.

Saints and Soldiers tries to show an intelligent and different side to war, far removed from the typical Gung Ho approach by some studios. The story is loosely based on an incident in World War 2 where the German Army, spearheaded by Panzers, broke through the American lines in the Ardennes. (The film 'Battle of the Bulge' portrays the fighting) During the retreat many Americans were captured and some were lined up and shot - a few Americans escaped during the confusion and this film tells the tale of a group of Americans trying to get back to their lines. Generally the film well acted, apart from an American actor, trying to play the part of an RAF pilot who was shotdown and joins the group - his upper-crust accent is woeful! There are a few turns and twists on the way and the film does work in a perhaps long drawn-out manner. Worth watching. Ken Smith

SAVING PRIVATE RYAN WAS MADE WITH STUPID AMOUNTS OF MONEY, BUT THIS FILM WAS MADE ON A SHOE STRING, HARDLEY ANY MONEY, UNIFORMS WERE AQUIRED THROUGH SECOND HAND UNIFORM DEALERS ETC, and the end result is this film is superb, take a moment to imagine what did and could of happened to captured soldiers, how many of our men were captured and tortured to fight for there country, WAR IS ONLY GLAMOROUS TO THOSE WHO WERENT THERE, true but i love war films :)

saints and soldierswhat a great film definately in the mould of saving private ryan but without the epic war scenes.This film concentrates on the human side of war with the odd bit of fighting thrown in.Follow a small band of american soldiers as they make there way to saftey through the forest of ardennes with the english pilot who has information that could save thousands of allied soldiers.A truly brilliant film worthy and deserving of the 13 international awards.

An ok movie pretty low budget and a bit unbelieveable at times if you think its on a par with private ryan then think again and dont believe the hype on the box. Its done on the cheap and it shows however its still watchable.
