Top Reviews 4 of 5 people found this review helpful. The world’s best Heavy Metal band and one of the world’s best Orchestras in the world combine to make a true masterpiece! Even if you are not a Metallica fan it is and amazing display of classical music and heavy metal. Also you will not believe it is a recording of a live performance in concert. This is a must for any CD collection, and any Metallica fan! A small piece of history for you, the idea came from the original version of Nothing Else Matters, where Michel Kamen scored the classical parts for Nothing Else Matters. Then at a award ceremony Michel was amazed by a live performance of Metallica and made a point to see the band after, where he suggested them do a whole concert with an orchestra, a long 8 years later they decided to do that very thing, giving birth to METALLICA & SYMPTHANY a.k.a S&M Review ID: 10000000000034828 Was this review helpful? Report this review Review created: 13/08/08 by: chocolatestarfish ( 7 ) Heavy metal & an orchestra are tow things that you would imagine would go together like a baby swan, and a half starved rabid tasmanian devil... If you hav read the other reviews, you will already see it has a good following from fans - not all die hard metallica ones either! Apparently even the orchestra were impressed by metallicas talents, and they worked together to produce something that even my dad would like! I honestly think that no other band has tried something like this and done so well. It came as even more of a surprise to me when i learnt it was recorded live, and not in a studio. If i am going to be honest i have to say that my preference is for the studio material, but this can only be described as a marvellous performance. It would have been a true honor to have been there on that day. If you dont like metallica, or classical.. but simply like good quality music... this is the album you need to have! a delight to listen to again and again. The music on this cd is not the normal kind of heavy metal you would associate with the band, it is a mixture of heavy metal and classical- no i don't mean Beethoven, etc. If you are a true Metallica fan this is a must have cd, it shows you what a heavy metal band can do when it teams up with an orchestra that spends most of its time playing the classics- this time i do mean Beethoven, etc. If you close your eyes whilst listening to this cd(if you can do that!!) you can picture the band on stage performing, and the fans below going mad. I don't suppose they mind what music is being played- its Metallica. As stated, its a must have cd, if you don't have it- go buy it, you won't be disappointed.
