Album Notes Fleetwood Mac: Lindsey Buckingham (vocals, guitar); Christine McVie (vocals, keyboards); Stevie Nicks (vocals); John McVie (bass); Mick Fleetwood (drums).Producers: Fleetwood Mac, Richard Dashut, Ken Caillat.Principally recorded at The Recort Plant & Wally Heider Recording Studios, Los Angeles, California, Criteria Studios, Miami, Florida, Davlen Recording Studio, North Hollywood, California. "Songbird" recorded live at Zellerback Auditorium, University of California-Berkeley, Berkeley, California on March 3, 1976.The reviewers tell us what to buy, but the public actually part with the cash. Surely 26 million people cannot be wrong, as original Mac guitarist Peter Green's creation became the prime example of AOR long after his departure. The inner strife and turmoil of the band is credited as having helped to make this many-headed beast into such a success. Keyboardist Christine McVie sparred with husband/bassist John, and singer Stevie Nicks scrapped with boyfriend/guitarist Lindsay Buckingham. Drummer Mick Fleetwood held the emotional mess together with confident steadiness as demonstrated in his confident, inventive playing throughout the record. Nicks' fiery vocals on "Go Your Own Way" complemented McVie's beautifully understated style on tunes like "You Make Loving Fun," exemplifying their successful fire-ice dichotomy. Reviews There isn't a duff track on this. Timeless and brilliant song writing. I take it everyone knows a sample from 'The Chain' has been pinched by Grand Prix Motor Racing. If you like guitar based music and you do not have it in your collection you are missing out! Review ID: 10000000007770213 Was this review helpful? Produced so tightly so that each track shines like a diamond with professionalism, this is how a group that locks themselves away for the best part of a year albeit with internal relationships disintegrating, produces that one-in-a-lifetime album that will live on for decades more. Perhaps a little foolishly I bought this album BEFORE the previous (aka The White Album) one; the one that had caused a great stir and had been their first #1 in the States. You really ought to listen to the previous one first as nothing can compare to this one. There is even a video documentary available on how they produced this album; a fantastic insight into the why's and wherefore's of the polish on each track. There is also an extended version of Rumours with outtakes and early mixes - once again a brilliant back-stage peek for Fleetwood Mac enthusiasts. Even though this was released in the latter part of the 1970s, it still is a Classic Album that deserves to be on everyone's CD shelf. 25 million copies were sold so see what you're missing! I first heard this album back in 1982 and rushed off to buy it on vinyl. I've worn the record out and just had to buy a CD copy to play in the car. This is true musical genius with the electrifying voice of Stevie Nicks, the inspired guitar of Lindsey Buckingham and the unforgettable bass of John McVie. I was in love with this album from the first time that I heard it and I'm still in love with it now. If you haven't bought it then don't wait a minute longer - rush out and buy a copy now. Every song is strong - from more standard guitar rock to softer stiring ballads. All recorded by a group whose members were in the middle of a complex web of divorces! You can hear the emotion straining to get out in every note. Review ID: 10000000003299775 Was this review helpful? Report this review |
