The Roy Wood re-mastering campaign trundles ever onward. This is a splendid double cd package containing Wizzard and solo period material from Warner Brothers 'Eddie & The Falcons'in 1974 and finishing with his last solo releases from 1987's 'Starting Up'.... Although Roy Wood's recording career has ground to a halt over the past twenty years, his back catalogue continues to have many wonders to behold, and a great many of them are featured on this 2 stunning disc package.
There's a liberal sprinkling of material from the aforementioned 'Eddie & The Falcons', Main Street' and 'Starting Up'. But on top of this there are loads of singles, b-sides and obscure 12 inch mixes... The highlight however must surely be the 4 utterly stunning live cuts from the original lineup's American tour of 1975.. They sound just like the records except live.. What a brilliant group of musicians - something that it is so easy to forget when you have a very brash glam image to see through... Those four tracks remind me so much of seeing the band on their sell out UK tour of early 74... The first gig I ever went to, at the old Apollo Theatre in Glasgow, and those four tracks sound just like I remember that evening.. Priceless. One of my favourite albums of the year...
