After a wait of almost 9 years Ronnie's new album will finally be released on April 10th 2006.The bad girl of rock and roll takes us through a wonderful musical journey of her often turbulent life. That fabulous trademark 'noo york' 20 Marlboro a day voice is still in top form.
Ronnie has collaborated with some big names on this album.Listen out for keith Richards on guitar and vocals(Never gonna be your baby,Work out fine).Patti Smith lends her vocals on the spine tingling'There is an end'The late great Joey Ramone backs Ronnie up on the Johnny Thunders classic 'You can't put your arms around a memory'. Daniel Rey,The yeah, yeah, yeahs and Sune Rose Wagner of the Raveonettes have also contributed their talents to the album.
Ronnie takes the lead this time and makes the song her own on the Raveonettes'ode to LA'.Released as a single last year with Ronnie as a guest vocalist.
The lyrics to 'Girl from the ghetto' stick two fingers up to a certain toupee topped, gun totting, murder suspect. This song says it all in no uncertain terms.
It's about a girl from Spanish Harlem who made it through the tough times and came out the other end smiling while the person who tried to ruin her career is no longer respected and is facing a grim future.
'i hope your cell is filled with magazines
on every page there's a big picture of me
and underneath the picture the caption will read
not bad for a girl from the ghetto like me'
This is such a good song and really does tell Ronnie's story.
'All i want'is a wonderful upbeat song that will have you, hairbrush in hand, singing along in no time even though it's about a girl who's man treats her badly and all she wants is to be shown just a bit of respect.Ronnie's voice is fantastic on this. This is definately a song for the girls.
The final song on the album is the Frankie Lymon classic 'Out in the cold again' A great song done in the style of an old 50s standard.Close your eyes and you will imagine yourself as the heroine of an old black and white movie wandering through a deserted street in the rain.Fantastic.
Ronnie has proved that she really is the last of the rockstars with this album.Superbly produced(Ronnie has co produced on three of the songs)
this is Ronnie at her very best.A real gem of an album.
