Although they made a mediocre album or two in this period 1971 - 1993, it's probably my favourite era in their career. I mean, who can dispute that Start Me Up was one of the best classic rock songs of the 80s? This hits collection is not arranged chronologically but it contains the raucous and controversial Brown Sugar and the bluesy Wild Horses from 1971, the Las Vegas-inpired Tumbling Dice of the next year, the aching ballad Angie from 1973 and the anti-journalistic dig It's Only Rock 'n Roll, recorded in 1974 after they got some bad press. Later the band moved to a more groovy sound with Hot Stuff, ladled out emotion on Fool To Cry and made a nod in the direction of disco with the entrancing Miss You. What I miss here, is the weird country song Far Away Eyes from the same album. There's also Emotional Rescue, sung in Jagger's famous falsetto. Everybody knows the gripping ballads Waiting On A Friend from 1971 and Undercover Of The Night from '83. Another sad omission, this time from the Steel Wheels album is the wonderful Blinded By Love, although Rock And A Hard Place was also a good choice. In the 60s they reinterpreted the blues and created incredible psychedelic rock. The above period saw them taking different directions again, everyone a winner. Jump Back is a brilliant showcase of the greatest band in the world's fertile middle period.

I have been a Stones fan for years and this disc is a very good representation of their careers.  It would make a good start to the collection of anybody new to the Stones music.

If you are like me and can remember the stones hiitng the scene in the early 60's with 'Iwanna be your man' just as you got your first motorbike and then loved all their hits from then on you'll have noticed a slight vacuum between '71 and 1993. Also if like me you could never afford the albums [bikes were expensive toys and to a biker the number one priority]they then ran a poor second.anyway this album fills the gap adequately.Even though some of the tracks have been remastered they are still up to the standard of the later tracks. In my humble opinion these are some of the last really, what I call real stones tracks, most after became to much jazz/blues oriented.Add this to your collection to complete three decades of memorable stones hits.

Excellent. One of the best and most varied compilations available. Very good remastered quality, an excellent choice as a great introduction to the Stones.

A Real Jump Back for Me

The Rolling Stones are icons and it would be hard to decide which CD was the must have to represent them in your collection if you were not a red hot fan. Many of their albums had some quite mediocre tracks on them besides the cracking ones.

I like this CD because it has a number of my favourite Stones track, but regretably not my absolute favourite.

Do I regret buying it? Most certainly not. Is it the only RS CD in my collection? Yes

Should you buy it? No reason why not unless you prefer the mix of tracks on another of their CDS.

Having converted most of my old video collection to DVD I was thrilled to find this film gem in digital format. If you watch this in widescreen format, it really does the battle scene great justice; coupled with surround sound, you'll be gripped by the amazing cinematography. I would recommend the director's cut that includes scenes about the relationship between the lead character and his estranged wife and helps you to understand the motivation behind his decision. The run time is 183 minutes for the directors cut and 120 minutes for the cinema version. I was, however, disappointed by the lack of extras, which any fan of this classic would expect to be included. There's only a 20-minute interview with the director and other shot "making-of" vignettes.

Review created: 07/07/09

Great CD compilation from the Stones, i had recently owned this on Audio tape and had wanted to replace it with CD format for sometime now. Sound quality of the CD Is really good and some may argue but i find it with an almost Vinyl quality.
Fully recommend anyone buying this if the era of tracks suits your tastes of the Stones...

This is a CD of totally awesome songs, all classics that will get you jumping around your kitchen. Really everyone should have this CD, it is one of those must-haves that should be part of everyone's CD collection. This is not for a chillout session, but when you want to rock out and get in the party mood! I absolutely love this and I know you will too.

  One Of The Best
Review created: 01/10/08(updated 05/10/08)

I was'nt realy a Stones fan in the early days, (although I did like the odd single by them) but I think Jump Back is a fantastic c.d. with some great tracks on it, such as Angie, Fool To Cry and Waiting For A Friend.

I have always said that the Stones are like a bottle of wine, the older they get the better they get and this c.d. has tracks from 1971 - 1993. If you are a stones fan, this is definitely for you.

As the label says "The Best Of The Rolling Stones". in my own opinion, it certainly is..... the very best!

  rolling stones - jumpback 71-93

1971 - 1993.JUMP BACK is a good C.D. from the Rolling Stones' with some of the biggest hits from 1971's STICKY FINGERS right up to 1989's STEEL WHEELS. the cd for me is excellent with the kick off with the 1981 classic "Start Me Up," from TATTOO YOU then immediately rewinds 10 years to the 71 classic "Brown Sugar" from STICKY FINGERS, the sheer quality and comprehensiveness of the disc proves the band was still a powerful force after the '60s ended. The strongest material here is from the 1970s, with standouts like the gorgeous "Tumbling Dice," "It's Only Rock 'N' Roll," and "Miss You." As always, Mick, Keith, and the lads ride some funky grooves, too, especially on the disco-flavored "Hot Stuff" and "Miss You". Of course, there are also good tunes from the 1980s, including the wiseful "Waiting on a Friend," a strong cover of Bob & Earl's 1964 hit "Harlem Shuffle," and 1989's "Mixed Emotions." Only the Stones could release a best of a collection comprised of material from the decades.

I tend to prefer the Beatles or the Kinks to the Stones but this is a good compilation of their greatest hits

I bought this for my husband as a birthday present. We both grew up with the Stones and had many of their records. I even remember seeing them in Bristol for 6 old shillings! The manger came out when we left our seats as Mick was singing 'come on' and said that if we didn't sit on our seats the Stones would never be allowed back there again! Some hope! - but what memories. In DVD we are able to play Stone's music again with a better quality and still enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
