This film is truly one of the finest in the history of cinema. It provides in equal amounts nail-biting fight scenes, tear-inducing romance, heart-pounding tense drama, and not a little comic relief that so far from being out of place in the drama serve to enhance it.
The only points of the film that diminsh its quality are Kevin Costner trying to fake an English accent and failing miserably, a fact pointed out by Mel Brookes in his spoof Robin Hood Men in Tights. The second is the appearance of Sean Connery in a cameo as King Richard, not unwelcome in its self for he carries the role with great dignity and power, but why a Scotsman with broad Edinburgh accent is playing a monarch whose origins, upbringing and language were French is anyone's guess. However these are truly minor points and they do not detract at all from the sheer majesty of this film.
From Morgan Freeman's wonderful redition of Robin's Moorish companion, displaying a talent for accents that eludes Kevin Costner, to Alan Rickman's outstanding performance as the Sherrif of Nottingham, displaying an ability to portray a character who is simply evil that is fantastic, Alan Rickman, as in every film he does, steals the show.
This film provides wonderful entertainment and it will produce a range of emotions in the viewer that will leave you exhausted and drained mentally. There are times when the tensions becomes almost too much to bear, and the tricky plot-twists will leave you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. A film that deserves pride of place in anyone's film collection, and deserves to be recoginsed as a true classic of cinema the likes of which we so rarely see any more.
The movie is capped off with a superb soundtrack from John Williams, and the opening music gets the andrenlin going before the movie even begins. The film luckily features a mostly English cast, including the wonderful Brian Blessed, and features many lesser English actors. It would have gained 5 stars, but for casting Kevin Costner who, despite being a fine actor, is not suited to the role of an English character. The title role could easily have gone to an English actor, but unfortunately it was not done, otherwise this film could have been as close to perfect as can be done.

One of my all time favourite films, so I am a bit biaised.
But this film has everything, a lot of humour, action, amazing set pieces, and romantic love interest..
Good acting all round, with the odd star popping up every now and again, and the best villain ever..
A good evenings entertainment for all ages.

Although Kevin Costner is no Errol Flynn, he does give a fantastic and believeable performance as a favourite hero. The scenery is beautiful, the cast has great chemistry and the film is done very well. It's a great film to see if you want romance, action and yes, even a bit of humor. The humor comes from the great acting of Alan Rickman, sometimes you can't help but like the Sherrif of Nottingham at times. It is a "feel good" film, and I do recommend it to anyone.
Finding this on DVD is brilliant, and one film I definately had to get for my collection.

WHATS NOT TO LOVE ABOUT THIS FILM. HISTORY, ROMANCE, FEEL GOOD FACTOR OF ROBBING FROM THE RICH TO GIVE TO THE POOR. IT SELLS ITSELF AND WITH ALAN RICKMAN AS THE VERY FUNNY BADDIE SHERIFF YOU CANT HELP BUT SMILE. ROOT FOR HIM TO WIN THE BLOODY FIGHT AT THE END BUT FULLY KNOWING HE WONT AND WITH COSTNER FRIGHTENINGLY GOOD AS ROBIN ATTONING FOR HIS SINS. ITS GREAT AND THE TITLE ROLE SONG OF "EVERYHTING I DO" IS AN ALL TIME CLASSIC. WORTH LISTENING TO ON ITS OWN. THIS FILM. TOUNGUE IN CHEEK ALL THE WAY. BUT HEY. ON A COLD WET AND WINDY DAY. A REAL TREAT AND A GOOD PICK ME UP INDEED.

) Everyone remembers the historical Robin Hood! Nottingham's past, childrens stories; and now the film!
There have been many films about Robin Hood, but this was the first big film! Starring 3 well known actors gave it a big boost.
With this one you have a lot of action, a bit of a love story (robin and marrion, obviously), and a few comedy moments thrown in.

Robin Hood Prince of ThievesThis is an excellent film, one that you can watch over again. I would recommend this film to anyone as it is a family film. Performances from Kevin Kostner and Alam Rickman are out standing, the best part for me is the ending scences between Kostner & Rickman it also has some comical bits. I brought this because i want to watc it with family

It's worth to die for her.What can I say about Robin Hood?, all of us are knowing the Robin's story.

Prince of ThievesI like this film - it looks really good setting and costume-wise and has a great cast - especially Alan Rickman as the wicked sheriff. And Maid Marian is a proper grown-up with real spirit and an independent streak - she sets a good example to us girls!

My son had seen the film at school and enjoyed it . I bought it for him so he could watch the excitting bits over and over again . That is the advantage of a DVD .

If you watch this in widescreen format, it really does the battle scene great justice; coupled with surround sound, you'll be gripped by the amazing cinematography. Watch it, it's great.
