Down to earth and gritty are just two ways to describe this look at life as experienced by schoolgirls Rita and Sue. Set in Bradford, Yorkshire, the girls explore their sexuality via the unhappily married Bob, with whom they engage in a torrid three way affair.
The film offers no apologies for the way some people live, and swearing predominates the script, which is after all based around the vernacular in use on the average run-down council estate, and though the language is coarse, it is no worse than is heard in everyday life nowadays (20 years after the film was made).
The film has no heroes or villains, just participants, all of whom are jostled and occasionally bruised by life, and the irreverent script gives rise to many comic moments that will have today's Political Correctness Police reaching for their telephones.
Viewed with toungue in cheek it will definitely raise a smile, though some may be offended.
