Please rate this review,Thanks: Julian Gilbey's fact-based crime saga Rise of the Footsoldier traces one man's meteoric ascension from a lucrative soccer career, through the ranks of organized crime, to the status of Britain's most omnipotent drug lord. The tale begins in the 1970s, when professional footballer Carlton Leach (Ricci Harnett) finds himself implicated in a series of violent skirmishes on the soccer fields of England. Prompted to leave this activity and enter another trade, Leach self-incorporates as a company called ICF - a front for the young entrepreneur's drug-dealing activities. Soon, Carlton's business flourishes - first with cocaine, then with ecstasy and heroin (as time rolls forward from the self-serving 80s into the 1990s), but with it comes severe addiction and, disturbingly, wave after wave of nerve-wracking violence. More hardened, more severe criminals turn up to do business with Carlton's associates, forcing Carlton to recruit tougher and more psychopathic elements to protect himself - particularly when the goods from a heroin shipment disappear and Turkish thugs begin closing in.

Great film if you like Green street, Football factory, The Business or Cockney's.A must watch five star film.

5/5 FOR THIS FILM

Top quality film, not for the fainthearted though. Shows in graphic detail the rise of Carlton Leach, purchased this after watching a documentry on him. I was not disappointed, kept me 'glued' to the tv all the way through. Would recommend it to anyone who's into the real life of this world.

  Rise Of The Footsoldier

When you look at this title you would think it's an army film, but after you watch the film you realise it is very well titled. This is the story of Carlton Leach and how he came through the ranks to end up as one of the hardest men in the UK. At the begining you will watch him and think what a waste of space and the best place for him is jail, but as the film unfolds you cannot help but get to like him. It starts with the football gangs of the 80s and runs into the rave scene of the early 90s. He soon found out that good money could be made in muscle work, watching deals go down and making sure they went smoothly. He soon realise's that if you go round thinking you are a gangster you will soon come across the real nutter's of the world, and once you are in with that crowd there is no way out. This is not a film to put on if you want to cuddle up to your girl, but if you want a good Briish gangster film this is the one. There are alot of people in this film you will have seen before so it's very easy to sit back and enjoy. This is a film you can watch over and over. The only thing which could make it better is watching it at the picture's or on a good surround sound system.

  Another superb gutsy British film
Review created: 23/08/08

This film is what it is a true reflection of the underworld violence and criminal activities of this nation, and anybody that don't believe what goes on need to get a reality check and watch this film. The acting the story was superb nothing short of brilliance for the film industry of this country. I can except that this is not everybody's cup of tea but I thought it was totally brilliant. This film kept me on the edge of my seat through out the 2 hours of film which felt like 2 minutes in my opinion this is a must see film. Well Done again to the british film industry and i salute you!

A very good informative film with plenty of action and truth of the time's when football violence was at it's hight, and also the consequence's of getting into drugs and mindless violence and the aftermath with crime and then death.
I would recommend this dvd to any one who wants to be riveted to the seat of their armchair for two hours.

I heard about this film by accident & being an Essex boy who likes his Brit Flicks just took a punt on it, (got it cheap off e-bay !) The film started a bit fast for me, it raced through the 70's & 80's really but once in the 90's where the formation of the door firm & the crew came into the film it became compulsive viewing ! I have read a book on the firm / murders etc & of course seen Essex Boys & it ties it all in nicely IMO

great Brit Flick, go get it !
