Michael Palin stars in this wickedly funny collection of spoof adventures which hysterically portray gloriously English eccentricity.

These are the complete classics from the pens of Michael Palin and Terry Jones.

Episode titles: Tomkinson's Schooldays, The Testing of Eric Olthwaite, Escape From Stalag Luft 112 B, Murder at Moorstones Manor, Across the Andes by Frog, The Curse of the Claw, Whinfrey's Last Case, Golden Gordon, Roger of the Raj.

The full and complete Ripping Yarns from Michael Palin

From the unsurpassable Golden Gordon ("Fancy calling your Son Barnestoneworth ?" "He's got another Name" "United ?") to the crushing parody of Tomknson's Schooldays, this is an absolute must for Python fans and more.

Roger of The Raj ("Off you go") and even Across The Andes By Frog are all comic gems.

Not much in the way of extras but who cares ?

Just such a funny series. Remembered it from years and years ago. We used to have a script book in the 70's and on Sunday afternoon we would come back from the pub and everyone would take a different part and we would 'do' an episode.
Got talking about it in the pub near where our caravan is and the Landlord mentioned that he used to love the series. So I tried to buy it for him and someone suggested I try ebay.
Michael Palin is always good to watch and in this series he played a different character every week. Very funny.

  Ripping Yarns from Ripping Chaps
Review created: 19/01/09

I bought this as a present for my brother as the series made us laugh years ago when we were growing up.

Michael Palin takes a series of irreverent swipes at the British stiff up lip style adventure story for boys. Buy this if you enjoy Monty Python style humour as thats where its coming from.

Highly recommended

  Ripping Yarns "Python Team Giggles"
Review created: 08/12/08

I decided to buy a copy of Ripping Yrns after seeing a re-run of one of the episodes on tv recently.
It must be 20 Years since i had last laughed at these silly stories.

If you like light hearted sillines then this is this kind of humour at its best.
Stories like "Tompkinsons School Days", The main character being superbly played by Michael Palin, and also featuring Ian Ogilvy [remember him!] WILL have even the most straight laced of most of us lauging, or at least with a silly giggle on their faces.

Tompkinson longs to be able to "hop on one leg" just like the bigger boys and not have to endure daily tasks like "thrashing the Headmaster"...hehehe..

Very funny, but dont take it too seriously, as you shouldnt anyway if it features the likes of Palin and Co.

Buy it for your teenagers and watch the puzzled look on his/her face as you chuckle to yourself as it comes on... Great!!!

  Ripping Yarns - British humor

A disk of short Pythonesk stories. If you understand British humor and enjoyed, Monty Python, Rutland Weekend Television and the like you will probably enjoy this. Half hour episodes so it is humor in bite size, easy to consume bits.

Michael Palin at his comedic best. Great writing (with fellow Python Terry Jones) and excellent casts in all episodes.

  Stands the test of time

Although they were made in the mid '70s, the high production values employed in making these boy's annual-style Yarns show through and they still look fresh today.

There are touches of Pythonesque humour, but Michael Palin and Terry Jones' style has moved on a little here, with the half-hour format allowing them to explore subjects in more depth than a sketch format. It's worth looking out for a host of well-known guest stars of the era too, including Ian Ogilvy and Denholm Elliott.

Whether you remember them from the '70s around or are coming to them for the first time, the Ripping Yarns are well worth spending time with.

  Ripping Yarns DVD
Review created: 02/05/07

I am a huge fan of Monty Python and this spin off series is just as funny.
I originally had Ripping Yarns on 2 Videos but lent them to the wrong person and never got them back, so when I saw this DVD for sale I had to have it as a replacement.

  MY REVIEW
Review created: 10/03/07

I BOUGHT THIS DVD BECAUSE I HAD JUST FINISHED READING MICHAEL PALINS DIARYS. HE MENTIONS THESE SHOWS ALOT IN HIS BOOK, AND AS I WAS TOO YOUNG TO WATCH THEM WHEN THEY WERE FIRST SCREENED I WANTED TO SEE WHAT THEY WERE ALL ABOUT.
THE DVD ARRIVED VERY QUICKLY AND WAS JUST AS IT HAD BEEN DISCRIBED IN THE SELLERS WRITE UP.
I WAS VERY PLEASED WITH IT.
I HAVE WATCHED MOST OF THE EPISODES ON THE DVD,AND ALTHOUGH IN SOME PLACES THE HUMOUR IS A BIT DATED, WATCHING IT HAS PASSED A FEW MORNINGS OF IRONING WITH A CHUCKLE.
I ENJOYED SEEING THE FACES OF ACTORS AND COMEDIANNES THAT I USED TO WATCH WHEN I WAS A KID WITH MY DAD(A MAN WITH A BRILLIANT SENSE OF HUMOUR), LIKE ROY KINNEAR.
THE ONLY THING I DISLIKED ABOUT THE DVD IS THAT IT MAKES ME FEEL OLD AND GROWN UP WITH NOT MUCH TIME TO ACT SILLY ANYMORE, ALTHOUGH I STILL DO EVERY NOW AND THEN
