Based on a true story by Beverly Donofrio, 'Riding in Cars with Boys,'is an excellent film. It follows the struggles of a fifteen year old girl Beverly who suddenly finds herself pregnant and having to face up to the challenges that pregnancy, marriage and motherhood bring into her life. Drew Barrymore complete with a whole brunette look is good in the lead role as teenager Beverly whose foolish night of youthful passion leads to a future life of broken dreams, failed ambitions, a bad marriage and her difficulty in adapting to motherhood. These ingredients lead to her writing a book an autobiographical account about the circumstances and situations life has thrown at her.
Far removed from the gloss of 'Charlie's Angels,'Never Been Kissed,'and 'The Wedding Singer,'Drew Barrymore displays such an amazing acting ability as she captures so well the teenage angst of Beverly and her rapid journey into adulthood and it's responsiblities. I was impressed at her playing the mother of a grown up son once her son had reached adulthood and was attending college it was a remarkable feat for an young actress.
With a good supporting cast of actors such as James Woods, Lorraine Bracco, Brittany Murphy and Steve Zahn this is a film I would recommend to anyone to see whether you are a Drew fan or not. I can't wait to read the book now.
