Ricoh Caplio R6 Digital Camera

I've just sent my R6 back for repair under warranty. The lens is stuck open & it won't focus! Its 9 months old, but this problem has also been reported by at least 12 others over last few months some just out of waranty so costing almost as much as new camera to repair after only 16 months or so! - affects R4 -R7 too. The firmware can be upgraded to help improve the lens stability apparently, but it does seem to be a meachanical problem. It was a good camera until then, although others have said the flash is weak at long distances. Avoid!

Great little camera - superb zoom lens, extremely compact, my only gripe is the focusing mechanism is a little on the noisy side - but really, all round this is an excellent little camera.

The Ricoh Caplio R6 is a fabulous camera, have a another leading brand camera which is superb but wanted a bigger viewing screen, this is excellent for wide screen shots and has a superb 7x zoom, simple to use, just perfect and the final results are stunning. Very good price for such a brilliant camera.

I don't do technical. This is from my viewpoint as an amateur user with particular requirements.

The R6 is a fabulous little camera. It's my second Caplio, and I would recommend them highly.

I bought it specifically for its excellent macro capability, because I sell jewellery and getting good close-up shots of details, hallmarks and flaws is important to me.

But I've taken it and its predecessor on holiday, and it's equally good for landscape and wide-angle shots.

It's very robust and looks great too, with its red body - but be warned - the silver pieces I'm photographing do tend to pick up reflections. If I'd thought it through I might have chosen another colourway.
