I've seen the Office. I love it! I've seen bits of Aniamls, it looked ok. I've seen Ricky Gervais on countless tv shoes, and he's always been a laugh, but this DVD was a complete let down.
I was really looking forward to seeing Ricky Gervais doing standup. To be honest, I was probably expecting David Brent to come out on stage! Gervais' jokes are a little (OK, a lot) on the wrong side of the fence, but all in good humour, but they aren't funny enough. I sat watching the hour or so long performance and laughed no more than 10 times! A lot of times the audience are laughing, but you can never tell why!
I don't have a problem with comedians taking jokes as far as they can, but his approach is all wrong.
The funniest bit of the routine is the pre-recorded intro! Scripting, acting and then poloshing a performance is far more suited to Ricky Gervais than stand up and improv.
If you're a fan of the Office, you may find this mildly amusing (at most), but if you're not then stay clear.
