Seeing as I have bought and completed each game in the Resident Evil series as they came out, it seemed only logical to check out the film, albeit some time after it became available on DVD. I was interested to see if they could tie in a worthwhile film script with the original game, and in my opinion they almost, but not quite, managed to pull it off.
Having said that the film stands alone well as an entity, and if you can ignore some rather convoluted plot twists that the film uses to reach its end, it is well worth watching. The main characters are capably played by the cast, and the zombies fulfill their assigned role in turning the environment into a nightmare. It was nice to recognise a "hunter" towards the end of the film, and the "defenses" scene is outstanding for lovers of gore!. The settings are atmospheric and eerie, effects are very well done, and the bullets fly. Given these, I can swallow any superfluous sub-plots as a necessary evil, and enjoy the film.
The ending gives the makers sufficient leeway to tie on a sequel, and if and when they make one, I will definitely buy it.

Milla Jovovich an ill-fittng dress and kickin' undead butt - what's not to like! Seriously, i'm not into action films on the whole or zombie/horror for that matter, but there is something remarkably charming about these films.
Apocalypse Now, On The Waterfront or Godfather it's not. But maybe that's it's charm. Unlike other movies in this and related genres, it wont turn into some phoney social commentary or bludgeon you with offal and body parts.
It's a check your thinking equipment in at the door take a seat and get ready for an entertaining 90 mins kind of movie. and they usually suck. But this don't. so there...

This is a brilliant film. Plenty of action, a clever story line and well matched actors to characters. It has just the right level of violence, not too over the top like some films. I think this film maintains tension and keeps you watching all the way through. BRILLIANT

I was very intigued by this film, i had been wanting to see it for ages and then i saw it being sold on ebay and i thought great and i'm glad i did.
The film is great i thought the acting is brilliant and the visual effects look very real, if you love jumpy films then you would love this as there are very jumpy parts to it, if you are a fan of the game then you will love the film because they have kept "The licker" one of the characters from the game and i think this would appeal to the audience
overall i think the film is great and that it is worth the watch!!

Brilliant film. One of the best zombie films I've ever seen.
Original was far better than the sequels.
I thought that the special effects were used to the best effect, but the 'final boss' scene could have gone on longer.
All in all, a brilliant film. Instant classic.
Would recommend it to anyone.

This is a movie loosly based on the computer game. It stars Milla Jovovich as an agent for one of the worlds biggest arms, technologhy, bio-weaponry and pretty much anything else you could think of. She is an agent for a company called umberella and works as a high level undercover security operative to infiltrate the company to help steal a deadly virus before it gets into the wrong hands. One thing leads to another and all hell breaks loose as the virus is released and when people die it re-animates them into a zombie like creature, this is where the fun begins as they must escape the underground facility she is there to guard. Its a butt kicking, gun blasting, high octane romp from start to finish. In my opinion its great fun and with great action and special effects, also its the first of three movies so i highly reccommend it and if you like it you will love the next two, a big thumbs up from me.

loved THE ZOMBIES BUT CAN BE A BIT BORING IN PARTS, ESPECIALLY IN THE BEGINING. Friends TOLD ME THIS FILM WAS GOOD AND i AM GLAD i BOUGHT IT AS IT WAS VERY EXCITING ONCE IT GOT GOING.

Got this dvd as my son said the game and film was very good, not a bad futuristic horror, in this one it is almost believable that the chaos that surrounds these people could happen but luckily, reality set in towards the end! lol if you are a fan of the horror genre, its not half bad.

first in the series, excelent film, unfortunatly i saw them out of order, but this one makes sence of the trilogy. the next 2 films are on blu ray, truely the only real way to watch the films

The lesser of the evilsThis is classic b-movie premise with hollywood polish and some fairly good CGI. It attempts to attatch a story what is simply an excuse to abuse the resident evil trademark. Yes there are zombies but despite the production values there are no shocks and very little originality here. Actors scrape by with passable 'characters' and what worked as a game seems all to vacuous to make a good film. Saying that, if you sit back and turn of brain you will find it a fairly enjobale flick for rental prices anyway.
