Album Notes
Red Snapper includes: Alison David, MC Det (vocals); David Ayers (guitar); Byron Wallen (trumpet); Jez Friend (trombone); Ali Friend (acoustic bass); Richard Thair (drums).Additional personnel: Jacqueline Norrie (violin); Brian Wright (viola); Nadia Lanman (cello).Red Snapper blurs the boundaries between rap, electronica and R&B effortlessly throughout MAKING BONES. Slippery acoustic bass lines scamper across breakbeats as well as live, often jazzy drumming. Fluid guitar lines mesh with orchestral synth patches, coloring groove-oriented tracks that shift between high-energy hip-hop and sultry, trip-hoppy soul (depending on whether its Alison David or rapper MC Det taking a turn at the mic).Deftly placed samples, synth gurgles and languid, muted horn lines come and go over the top of these rhythm-centered sonic concoctions. However, all these disparate elements mesh into a whole that is both engrossing and invigorating. It's this gestalt that makes MAKING BONES a success on its own terms.

Editorial Reviews
9 (out of 10) - ...MAKING BONES is a steaming experiemnt where Mingus-mangled bass lines sex it up with staccato, Clyde Stubblefield-ish drumming, and where desolate dreamscapes of 90's trip-hop court the good-time glee of 80's hip-hop...

...MAKING BONES expands...into a realm of instrumental freedom that relies on a groove, but stretches and pulls at it with a curiosity and edge...
New Music Monthly (07/01/1999)

4 (out of 5) - ...MAKING BONES is...intriguing [utilizing] neo-drum & bass methodology...
Alternative Press (08/01/1999)

...the Snappers get in on with a mind-altering distillation of hard-bop syncopation, jungle-charged hip-hop and atmospheric soul power....Make no bones about it, this organic chill-out crew has the skills to pay the bills...
