Red Hot Chilli Pipers - Bagrock To The Masses (CD 2007)

sorry but I can't leave a proper review as I have bought this as a Christmas present for my mum so I've no idea what it's like!

Absolutely fab! I met, and heard the Chilli Pipers for the first time at Mauchline in Ayrshire and was so impressed by their music when I came home off holidays I went out of my way to buy their CD.

Their music is certainly different, some might say an "acquired taste" but once you have acquired that taste it is worth savouring every mouthful.

Bagrock To The Masses has quite a diverse selection of music on it, and some more famous tunes given a new spin on them (some much improved by the Chilli Pipers I might add!) but their other material is equally as good.

This CD is one I could quite easily leave in the CD player and play over and over again, if you want to listen to a new version of music then this group / band (whatever they are called these days) is just the ticket.

A star rating of Excellent is not enough ... Double / Triple / Quadruple Excellent is more like it!

I found the covers of We will Rock you/Eye of the Tiger, Smoke on the Water and one or two others didn't really work with pipes. Those particular tunes, in my opinion, don't suit being played on the pipes. I found Celtic Bolero, Flower of Scotland and a couple of others were brilliant.
I see what the chilli pipers are trying to do and largely, it works and sounds a great break away from the traditional. A great idea, but perhaps more thought into which tunes will work and which wont before they are burned onto cd.
I must add, this is the only time I have heard the chilli pipers and I'm not sure I would buy another cd of theirs. I bought this cd as the result of all I had heard in the media and recommendation of others, but was quite disappointed.
