Album Notes Red Hot Chili Peppers: Anthony Keidis (vocals); Jack Sherman (guitar); Flea (bass); Cliff Martinez (drums).Additional personnel: Keith Barry (viola); Kenny Flood (tenor saxophone); Patrick English (trumpet); Phil Ranelin (trombone); Cliff Brooks (timbales, congas); Gwen Dickey (background vocals). Recorded at El Dorado, Los Angeles, California. Includes liner notes by Flea. All tracks have been digitally remastered using 24 Bit Technology. The Red Hot Chili Peppers' 1984 self-titled debut may not have been as stellar as future releases would be (UPLIFT MOFO PARTY PLAN, MOTHER'S MILK, etc.), but the band's intoxicating punk-funk proved to be a breath of fresh air in an otherwise stagnant rock scene. Original members Hillel Slovak (guitar) and Jack Irons (drums) bowed out just prior to the recording of the debut (they'd return for the next release, 1985's FREAKY STYLEY), as fill-ins Jack Sherman and Cliff Martinez joined singer Anthony Kiedis and bassist Flea. The album-opening "True Men Don't Kill Coyotes" was the band's first video to appear on MTV, while "Get Up and Jump" has proven to be a perennial concert staple. Other highlights include "Green Heaven," "Out in L.A.," and "Police Helicopter." | |||||||||||||
Reviews Review created: 14/03/08 by: This is the first instalment for the chilis, way back in '83! You can hear how Anthony's lyrics have developed into his unique singing style that he uses today from this album. Its a must have if you are a chili's fan, a VERY different album from their later stuff but still got that great funk rock feel with thoughs kick ass bass lines... After going to concert to see the chili peppers in summer of 2006, i found myself addicted to this band and wanting more. Buying this album should only done under the pretence that you want to delve into the history of the band DO BUY if your into the post punk era of FUNK these guys a funkin awsome and can do amazing thing with instruments. all there songs are individual and are trademark of the early chili peppers. The late Hillel Slovak has an individual but failry simple way of playing a guitar but extracing the best out of a riff. although an amzing album for the "original fans" i think, if your new to the band and listen to californication, by the way, and of course stadium arcadium and blood sugar, then this is probably not hte album. BUY this album if you want the complete album of the chili peppers DONT BUY this album if your lookin to futher the chili peppers in a sense of there later music. you will find listening to there latest and then oldest album is like listening to a seperate band. they have certainly aged gracefully but you cant beat some good old FUNK Thanks Nile Review ID: 10000000002600671 Was this review helpful?
