Emotional, tragic story of a love affair between a mature woman and a 15-year-old boy soon after the end of the Nazi era in Germany. The woman has a very dark secret that will damage both their lives. For a powerhouse performance spanning 30 years of the woman's life, Kate Winslet deservedly won two Best Actress awards: an Oscar and a BAFTA. The film rambles a bit but Winslet's performance makes it a must-see.

SET IN POST WAR EUROPE, STORY OF EX PRISON GUARD (WINSLETT)WHO HAS AN AFFAIR WITH A YOUNGER MAN, SHE MENTIONS NOTHING OF HER PAST TILL, EDUCATED-WELL READ LOVER STUDIES LAW AND FINDS HIMSELF IN THE SAME COURT ROOM AS ACCUSED AND DISCOVERS TRUTH. 7 OUT OF 10.
