Ray Mears Extreme Survival Series - 1 And 2 (DVD 2003)

If I was to go on 'Desert Island Discs' and asked about what I would take with me - it would have to be 'Ray Mears'...with hin with me I know I would have no problems of surviving...but Ray wouldn't be allowed to go along with me, but by viewing and trying the techniques he covers in his various programmes I know that I will greatly enhance my opportunity to survive...thus I would need in 'Disc' form a portable DVD player and his various survival DVDs...Ha! Ha!
In this set of 'Extreme Survival' series...Ray cover techinques from various parts of the world...Oh! Great...you say...I'm going to place myself in the middle of the desert and thus I'll now know what to do!
Oh! Ye of little faith...
View the programmes with an open mind and you'll see that what Ray is showing from various parts of the world may or may not have the same basic elements around in which to gain food or shelter...but is really a show that if basic steps are undertaken suvival is more assured.
Ray in this series covers Arctic Survival...I've also viewed his nemisis of Bear Grylls cover the same topic albeit with a different approach...the Canadian Les Stroud has also covered it...what is shown is the fact that we can use these basic steps of Arctic Survival when we are in a situation of being caught when our own winter turns very nasty...I remember reading about a man stranded in his car somewhere on the A66 and that he was cut off due to severe drifting snow...he had also watched various survival programmes and remembers that planning for being stuck in situations helps survival prospects; he was with his car for around 20 hours...he was eventually helped to safety, he had to wait a few days to recover his vehicle and stated that being prepared helped him...he stated he knew how to keep warm, had some basic food and drink in his car, a sleeping bag, radio, torch, etc...
But Ray also covers techniques in the Desert, at Sea, in the Tropics and covers Military Survival Training...
There is also the usual helpful 'Extras' section on: Shelter Building, Making Fires, Cooking, and many more...
So if like me - you like watching Ray Mears and enjoyed the programmes...then you may be like me get to collecting these programmes, viewing them, digesting them and hopefully something will enter the 'Grey Matter' and ready yourself for what the world may throw at you...Ray's clutch of Survival DVDs are available to you whether it be for the 'Extreme' or not...
