  Best film of 2007

This was the best family film I saw all year in 2007. What seems at first a simple story about a rat who wants to cook, turns out in fact to be something more, deeper and more subtle. It was funny, charming, and also very touching. The animation was truly stunning and both my Wife and children aged 8 and 13 loved it. Wonderful.

  Wonderful ideas and brilliantly produced
Review created: 13/07/08

I love everything about Ratatouille because it's an absolutely brilliant movie. The simplicity of an idea about a rat that loved food and to cook, such a contradiction in the real world and yet it makes for a magical story. We follow Remy, the small rat that has learnt the art of good food from watching and reading about his idol- Gusteau. His family though do not approve and see him as betraying the rules of being a rat by entering the human world, befriending and aiding them and wanting to be a chef.

After a bad review from a critic, Gusteau's restaurant is in need of help to get back on top of the rankings and Remy rushes to the rescue. The ingenious idea of him controlling Linguini from inside the chef's hat and getting him to follow Remy's instructions is a wonderful idea and outstandingly well animated.

Ratatouille provides plenty of laughs, magic, action and adventure in this beautiful Disney Pixar animation. One of the best animated movies ever, a masterpiece in creation from some truly brilliant ideas. Guaranteed enjoyment.

  Ratatouille - 2 Disk Version

Great CGI comedy film suitable for the whole family, as per usual with PIXAR excellent production values.

Plot Summary:

Remy (Patton Oswalt), a rat blessed with an extraordinary sense of smell and dreams of becoming a chef, like his hero Anton Gusteau (Brad Garrett).

Events conspire to split Remy from his tribe and lead him roaming the streets of Paris and finding work in a Anton Gusteau’s restaraunt

Now, what could go wrong, a rat preparing food in a gourmet restaurant?

Some nice extras on the second disk

  Ratatouille (DVD)
Review created: 09/04/08

A sewer rat working undercover at a posh restaurant is a pretty icky premise, but in Pixar's latest and possibly greatest film, you'll be rooting for the rodent. Remy (Patton Oswalt) is a rat blessed with a burning desire to cook. With the help of a kitchen boy whom he literally puppets around the kitchen, Remy can produce dishes to astound the most jaded palate. But how will diners react when they discover the rat beneath the hat?

This is a glorious return to form for Pixar following last year's disappointing Cars. The brainchild of master animator Brad Bird (The Incredibles), Ratatouille is so much more than just another CGI critter caper. It's a thriller, a frenetic comedy, and a love story in the style of Cyrano De Bergerac, as Remy guides the hapless kitchen drudge Linguini through a treacherous romance with a fiery French chefette (Janeane Garofolo). But most of all, Ratatouille is a love letter to food and cooking. Bird goes all out to infect the audience with Remy's love of flavour, using mind-bending visuals to illustrate the aroma of a piece of cheese. Complex as this celluloid dish is, the plot is mere pasta to a rich ragù of slapstick setpieces. A kitchen, as Tom and Jerry proved, is a deadly adventure playground for rodents, and Remy is forever dodging hot plates and flying meat cleavers on his quest to impress cadaverous critic Anton Ego (fruitily voiced by Peter O'Toole.)

" BASICALLY, IT'S A MASTERPIECE"

I could go on for hours about the delights of Ratatouille. The animation is superb, the vocal work flawless, the script witty, the central conflict between family ties and the pursuit of excellence subtly handled. The tasting of the eponymous ratatouille is so expertly done that it's sure to find a spot on any cinemagoer's top twenty favourite scenes. Basically, this is a masterpiece. Don't miss it!!

  Disney Magic !!!
Review created: 03/03/08

This is the Best Disney Film for a long time, you can not beat the classic films but this comes close.
I’m in my twenty’s but love this new style of Disney action film & if you liked Cars you need to see this!!!
It is set in Paris & follows the Journey of Remy a young rat with a special gift of an increased sense of smell, which helps him with his love of cooking. He jumps in to help a human called Linguini & together create the finest food Paris has seen.
The CGI Animation is Top Notch, and still has that Disney Family Magic that will appeal to all.

If you go for the 2 Disc set it comes with Good Extra Bonus Features for the Kids.

9/10 for the Magic !!!

Bought this for my children and didn't plan to watch it myself. Soon changed my mind watching the rats adventures. Very funny especially the mass raid on the kitchen when the rats are trying to blend into the black tiles.

Biggest laugh though is the Pixar short film - Lifted about an inexperienced UFO operator. Hilarious.

A marvel of modern animated movies
Review created: 21/02/08

Do not expect the humour of the original shrek, and do not expect the soft story and music of Toy Story, but do expect very very smart animation, a warming story and an all round well packaged movie. Perhaps a little more aimed at big kids looking for a return to child hood heart warmer, (no hidden adult humour here)! My 3 year old got a bit bored two-thirds of the way through. My 8 year old watched and enjoyed but perhaps did not rave about it in the same way she did over Shrek. But my wife and I loved it!
Worth having in the collection, if not for now, for later!

This was a fantastic movie for a night in. I have to confess, I have no kids and I am 21 years old...but I still loved the film. It was funny, quite long but entertained throughout. You can tell this movie will be a classic up there with Toy Story later on in a few years. If you have not seen it...then what are you waiting for, it is truely a brilliant film. Buy it!

Really the best film of 2007, as its a family all-rounder. They've turned rats into adorable creatures with culinary tastes of the highest order, and under-sized french chefs into characters of hate. Food critics are blasted - Egon Ronay's name is skilfully adapted - a DVD that entertains the kids, gives food for thought (no pun intended) to the adult views and generally suuuuuperbbb.

This is one for the whole family. Good messages, happy ending, funny and sad together, like all the old Disney classics. Also all the money has gone on animation not famous voices that young audiences don't realise anyway.
Great film which is not as popular as it should be. My little boy adores it and I don't mind watching it again and again either.

Disney/ Pixar do it again. This is a truly great film and will certainly appeal to a wide audience. I have 4 children aging from 2 to 8 and they ALL found this enjoyable along with my wife and I. The jokes keep coming and the animation is breath taking. Buy this you won't be disappointed

I'm into 3d Graphics/modelling, and love cartoons. Pixar are hard to beat, and it shows. The textures/models are brilliant. The concept of the film is quite amusing, and there are scenes to make everyone in the family laugh!
