Rammstein - Sehnsucht (CD 2001)

This band has good musical talent and is not just another metal band. They are able to make a nice variety of music here and one particular track is a favourite - "Du Hast". I think they are the best of their kind and seem to be a cross between Skinny Puppy and Kraftwerk.
Some of the subject matter on this album is a bit unsavoury and the band is well known for controversy. Even the english translation of the lyrics are not blatantly foul or vulgar, however.
I got mine from eBay for a decent price and you get a good quality sound, which is not usually the case when you download music.

I got this album after buying the Live in Berlin album, also on ebay.

This is a strange album and I was relieved to see an English Translation, as I would not have a clue what the lovely Till Lindman was snarling about. He sounds like my kinda guy as he sings about the pleasures of bisexual S&M Sexual Acts. I seem to remember that he got pulled off (no pun intended) as he simulated anal sex with his (male) drummer live on stage. I think this must have been the song Buck Dich (Bend Down), I have to say that I find this a scream rather then a turn on or getting all indignant about it.

I have to say I think that the songs sound better live and to reiterate an earlier critism that the songs can be rather samey and overly long.

However if you are in the mood for gutteral germanic anthems then Rammstein are your men. Now if they could do a duette with Russell Mael and Ron Mael my life would be complete.

After Herzelied came Sehnsucht. More of the same really and why not? If it aint broke don't fix it! Rammstein didn't try to fix it and produced another superbly listenable snarling, stomping, guttural teutonic masterpiece. It's vulgar, it's heavy, awash with double meanings and sexual innuendo (yes, do look up the translations if you don't speak German) and just so, so good. I've never been the worlds biggest heavy metal or rock fan, but I can listen to this over and over again and find something new in it every time. It's brilliant, buy it!

The beginnings of their breakthrough can be seen on this album. Songs like Sensucht and Buch dich etc are awesome. Overall, not as finished as Mutter but still worth having the album.
