there is not a single thing i can say that is bad about this masterpiese, one of the most influential albums ever recorded, an astounding musical experience, voted in the top ten albums ever recorded by a public poll, there is not a bad song here, they flow perfectly, this is the theme tune for an entire era and everybody in every band at the moment or in the future owes a debt to this record, for without it music would not be as you know it today, if you dont have it yet, get it......... you can thank me later

What An Album Should Sound Like
Review created: 05/08/06
by:
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

God is this amazing. The Bends' cover is a symbol of the tortured but strangely relieving lyric style of Thom Yorke. The strange expression on the man's face looks like he's singing, but somewhere between pain and relief.
This album is a brilliant varied collection, from calm slow and almost spacey songs such as: Planet Telex, Bullet Proof and Street Spirit to great rockers such as: Just, My Iron Lung and Bones.
The Best Songs:
It's hard to decide, but the 5 best are probably:
1. Fake Plastic Trees, because its just amazing
2. My Iron Lung, twisted riffs and blistering solos
3. Street Spirit, intensely powerful and moving
4. High And Dry, a beautiful chorus and calming rhythms
5. Sulk, masterful riffs and a soaring vocal

Overall, just buy it. Its not as good as OK Computer, but not much is.

Classic songwriting with a broad appeal - a solid album
Review created: 28/06/08

It's easy to forget just how good an album The Bends is, especially in the context of later fare like OK Computer and In Rainbows. Sure, the sound is simpler and cleaner, and less obviously innovative - but sheer invention isn't the selling point of The Bends.

What marks The Bends out from its peers, and anything Radiohead have done before or since, is the simplicity and quality of the songwriting. Take any song of that genre - Our Time Is Running Out by Muse, or Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Green Day, and multiply it and you have The Bends. Every track is that good. The number of hit singles including Just, My Iron Lung and Street Spirit (Fade Out) testify to how filler-free the album is.

The crisp, clear production pays very close attention to the details, and the layering of sounds gives a rich and new experience each time that rewards repeated listens.

Whether you're a Radiohead fan or just like guitar-based rock, you won't be disappointed.

  The Bends
Review created: 16/06/08

The amazing second album from Alternative rock group Radiohead sees a delightful turn in new musical direction with an angle on more electronic sounds. An amazing album, pure genius. Especially (Nice Dream), The Bends, Planet Telex and most importantly Just. A beautiful piece of musicianship!! Highly Recommended!!

Classic Radiohead, worth discovering in the pre OK Computer back catalogue. You might recognise Just, Fake Plastic Trees etc. Anything with Thom Yorke singing gotta be worthwhile.

After Pablo Honey, a lot of people thought Radiohead was going to be a one hit wonder. With this masterpiece everyone who paid attention realized that they were one of the best bands in music. The Bends has amazing lyrics, and great hooks, leaving the listener absorbed into the sound. I think I have listened to this album more than anyhting else released in the 90's

  Radiohead - THE BENDS ALBUM
Review created: 20/04/08

Radiohead are a band who should feature in the collection of any half respectable music fan and if you buy just one of their records, THE BENDS album should be the one. A skillfully crafted collection of songs of the intelligent melancholy variety, guitar riffs and poetic lyrics are abound in this album. You won't be disappointed with this riot of creativity and musical genius from one of the greatest indie bands.

Different from Radioheads later albums. But definitely my favourite. Music is as good as any thing Radiohead have produced, but the lyrics are intelligent and can be clearly heard.

  Radiohead- The Bends
Review created: 15/11/07

I bought this CD when I was at collage about 4 years ago. I'd heard alot of banter about Radiohead between the kids in m sixth-form who were in bands, but if they ever played a Radiohead record on the CD player, it wouldn't have been anything that struck me as audio ecxtasy. Got it for £4.99 at the HMV sale, and I remember my house mate saying that he'd heard it was meant to be a really good album up there with primal Scream's Screamadelica. First time I listened to it I thought 'why the hell would anyone want to listen to this?' my housemate said back to me 'you don't have to listen to anything you don't like.' I was going to take it back, but I listened to it several more times, and it was the track High & Dry which caught my attention. I found the track overwhelmly poignant, and it made me cry. I liked the end of Fake Plastic Trees where it softly fades out too. I used to listen to the album on 2% volume before going to sleep.

  The Bends = The Best

This album really helped radiohead break through and was the first album i got. I was hooked on it as it has a lot of cool songs on it. The later stuff is nothing like this and is a much easier album to listen to. This and Pablo Honey are some of the early albums and i love them to bits. i think this is voted one of the BEST EVERY ALBUMS and it really is. They are one of the biggest influential bands of the the 90's and even later on. A MUST HAVE!!!

Radiohead are the most talented, innovative band of our time. This is their second album and was the best album of 1994.This album showcased a more mature, refined quality than their debut(Pablo Honey).Radiohead are not afraid to go out on a limb and totally change their sound with each new album.
If you like guitar bands then they don't get any better than Radiohead. Highly recommended.

The album which shares the potential
Review created: 05/08/06

To start, this album is a winner. In the saga of Radiohead 'The Bends' comes just before their groudbreaking album 'OK Computer' and just after their debut, 'Pablo Honey'.
The odvious stand-out tracks are 'High And Dry', 'Just' and 'Street Spirit (Fade Out)'. For guitarist, Jonny's work on 'Just' is outstanding, for vocalists, Tom's beauty is clear to see on 'Fake Plastic Trees' and the whole band just rock out on tracks like 'My Iron Lung'.
If you want to hear a band who are just about to wow the world with 'OK Computer' then this is the album for you.

  GENIOUS!!!
Review created: 20/07/06
by:

This album can only be described in one word and that is GENIOUS!!! every song has its own vibe and story unlike other albums where each song sounds like the last. Each song is different and thats why Radiohead are the band that are "different" which is in their own right. if you have the chance of buying this album then just remember it is going to be the best spent money this year.

So please bid lol!!!!
