Queensryche have a knack for keeping their fans guessing. A case in point, the band followed up their lofty, concept-driven MINDCRIME II album with a distinct break from their serious side in the form of TAKE COVER. This all-covers set features a decidedly eclectic mix of song choices; from the logical (Pink Floyd, Dio-era Black Sabbath), to the tangential (one show tune and an operatic aria, both clearly inspired by dramatic singer Geoff Tate) to the questionable (Philly soul and '60s protest songs). Still, uneven as it may be, Queensryche fans get a chance to experience the group having some genuine fun for a change.
