This is an okay film, watched it in the cinema few days ago, found it alright. It was more like an end of the older film - Casino Royale - I also thought it was a beggining or some sort of introduction to maybe another James Bond film with Daniel Craig?.
I also found it very mysterious, ironically, you don't actually get to know anything about Quantum, its maybe mentioned a few times, be he remains mysterious.
It has very good action scenes, good looking women, great acting.
This is my opinion!

Quantum of Solace DVD - James Bond
Review created: 27/03/09

The second outing for Daniel Craig, continuing from Casino Royale with the back to basics Bond. I consider Casino Royale as a great action film even if you do not like Bond and one of the best Bonds ever. Quantum had a hard act to follow and like most sequels just falls short of the original. Craig still plays Bond hard edged like Connery rather than the poor characature portrayed by Moore. Action, car chases and yes there are some hairs out of place and some evidence of the fights, all add up to an enjoyable fast paced movie. Pour yourself a martini and enjoy. The special features include a music video and some featurettes - a bit disappointing and add little to the movie - as the "extras" so often fail to do, with a few exceptions such as Terminator 2 and the Lord of the Rings series.
Enjoy the movie and watch the extras when all the repeats are on the TV!!

Quantum of Solace Wormy, arrogant villains, naked agent
Review created: 13/05/09

James Bond is back, and this time it’s mighty personal. Daniel Craig’s craggy agent picks up exactly where he left off in another bruising thriller that leaves you feeling both drained and exhilarated.

There are hand-to-hand fights that make your eyes water and old-school stunts involving motorbikes, speedboats, jet fighters and expensive cars that give you whiplash just looking at them. Really, nobody does it better than the new 007.

What makes Marc Forster’s film such an intriguing watch is that this is the first of the 22 Bond movies where the plot flows organically from the last instalment, and Quantum of Solace looks a far stronger picture for this rare continuity.

Needless to say the plot is as forbidding as the title. After the death of his girlfriend, Vesper Lynd, at the end of Casino Royale, Bond mixes revenge and duty dangerously as he hunts down the shadowy group that blackmailed Lynd to betray him.

A link to a bank account in Haiti puts Bond on the scent of Mathieu Amalric’s chief creep and ruthless businessman, Dominic Greene. All great Bond adversaries are generously blessed with kinks and quirks and Greene is no different. Amalric has a wonderfully wormy arrogance.

His sidekick, Elvis (Anatole Taubman), sports a monkish fringe, and Tarantino bad looks. But it’s the manner in which Amalric manages to poison all trust in Bond, even from his nearest and dearest, that makes him one of the classic arch-adversaries.

Cold rage threatens to derail Bond’s mission to crack Greene’s dastardly organisation known as Quantum, and I doubt that there’s a better actor at bottling rage than Daniel Craig.

All muscles, he has defined himself as a darker and more bare-knuckle Bond than any of his elegant predecessors.

The deadpan humour is still there. And despite the occasional blasts of visceral and grisly violence, Craig is threatening to become the most popular 007 yet, certainly with the younger generation.

Even the famous Bond babes seem to be getting tougher. Olga Kurylenko’s stunning, hard-as-nails beauty, Camille, has her own private vendetta that she wants to bring to a bloody conclusion, with or without Bond’s help. And Gemma Arterton’s effortlessly foxy Agent Field appeals to the better side of the wounded anti-romantic.

“Do you know how angry I am at myself,” says the naked, raven-haired M16 agent as Bond kisses his way up her spine. But Bond rarely lets a life-threatening difference of opinion get in the way of a decent flirt.

The familiar faces returning from Casino Royale pose a far more subtle, acidic test for Bond who has to tread carefully around treacherous old friends: Jeffrey Wright’s lugubrious CIA agent Felix Leiter; Giancarlo Giannini’s silky string-puller, René Mathis; Jesper Christensen’s duplicitous Mr White; and Judi Dench, of course, as his witheringly unimpressed boss, M.

“When you can’t tell your friends from your enemies it’s time to go,” growls Dench.

Of course, Bond is having none of it. There are new necks to break and toys to play with as the action rips across Austria, Italy, and South America.

The global stakes are as precarious as ever. Amalric’s masterplan to destabilise a South American regime, install a dodgy dictator, General Medrano (Joaquin Cosio), and take control of the biggest source of fresh water in the world is fabulously cock-eyed. But that’s one of the main reasons why we can’t get enough of the greatest franchise of them all.

While this particular Bond movie may not be everyone's cup of tea (or vodka martini for that matter), it is undeniably a well made, cracking action movie. Craig's gritty portrayal of the ice cool Bond continues to please me, certainly much better than the previous, lighter weight alternatives. He nay be an Intelligence Officer, and intelligent with it, but Fleming always intended Bond to be a thug with a thin veneer of sophistication. Fast paced, visually exciting, and the Bond Girl is outstanding. More of the same next time, please!

I bought the DVD of Quantum of Solace because I missed it at the local Cinema. It was well worth it finacially, as the Cinema Tickets would cost considerably more that the price paid on ebay. I have managed to see all the James Bond Films adn this was not exiting than the previous Films. However, the latest Films ar somewhat more difficult to follow, howevre, the action is just as exiting.

Well, firstly, im a Bond fan, have seen them all, and after the last version of Casino Royale being a justified success, was expecting the same or better from this one. Again, I avoided seeing it at the movies and managed to miss most of the trailers, so when I sat down to watch it for the first time, I wish I hadnt bothered. In a nutshell, the action sequences all seemed to be on 'fast forward', like way too frantic, its as if they have speeded them up to fit a lot in, but that just makes them forgettable. The usual opening scene thats normally a 'must see' was probably the quickest bond car chase id ever seen. What few trailers id actually seen gave me the impression the relationship between bond an 'M' was to be a bit darker, following on from the last movie, giving the impression Bond was going out of control, but didnt get any of that either, even the usual opening target/gunshot/blood down the screen was left until the end, and that god-awful theme tune (which normally grows on me if a bit unusual) grated me. Was destined to be bought on blu ray for the collection, but unless it drops below a fiver, no chance.
The last film deserved armfuls awards it didnt get, this deserves nothing.
Note to producers of the next film - get some better writers and a decent director, and start again because this (and it pains me to say it) was a waste of Daniel Craig and what he has shown by the previous film what he can do!

A Good Enjoyable Film but poorly shot and edited

A Much better than Casino Royale which must surely have left Ian Flemming Rolling in his grave - this one is at least true to itself, it feels like a 3 hour film packed into 1 hour 40 Minutes, it's too fast moving to have time to enjoy and as a result the plot has been kept very simple - definately not a 'thinking man's' Bond Film, in fact Harry Potter Films have more of an interesting plot.
Craig is brilliant in this one, but rather than an ex Royal Navy Commander, Craig and Co have made Bond look more like an ex SAS Staff Seargent!
The Bond Girls were better too, a bit ladett but better than last time, as were the countless stunts, the Camera work is far too fast and close-up for my liking and the editing failed to exploit the atmosphere afforded by the wonderful and exotic locations in which the film was actually shot - bit of a waste, they might as well of done it all on set at Pinewood Studios.
But definately worth seeing and it'll need to be more than once!

Daniel Craig's second outing as Bond shows he is well suited to the job. A tough gritty Bond exacts revenge on Mr White for the death of Vesper in Casino Royale, and a new Super Villian organisation is revealed - Quantum (reminesant of Spectre of old). Bond battles with the new style of 'Bourne' fighting so its all up close and personal, bloody and violent. However Craig is well suited to the role and is the most believable 007 yet. Story left wide open at the end for the ongoing battle against Quantum, and I for one can't wait. Enjoyed it better the second time.9/10

Along with Casino Royale, the best Bond film yet

Daniel plays it gritty, more realistic, more physical than any of the other Bonds. Needs to be watched alongside Casino Royale, as Quantum of Solace is basically Casino Royale part II

  007 fights back!

Didn't see this at the cinema as i don't live near one! However, right from the beginning 007 is in action. Probably too much action at the beginning but what do you expect? Not a JB film that you would buy if you just bought it for the gadgets which have been in the other films but it doesn't really need them.

If you like James Bond films then this one won't disappoint!

Review created: 14/10/09

I am a Bond fan and I did love Casino Royale. But this is probably the first Bond movie where I actually became bored. The directing was terrible, the script was awful. Action scenes seemed to be placed in the film at regular predetermined times almost for the sake of it and often came out of no-where just to fill in for the lack of story. When the action scenes did come they were overdone and confusing to say the least due to far too many elements being crammed into each scene, including the pathetic car chase. CR had the perfect balance of good action vs story and was very well put together. QoS simply doesn't have this and is simply just an all out action piece and quite frankly doesn't do it very well! I thought Die Another Day was the worst Bond up until now, this one equals that easily; such a disappointment after the "reboot" of the series.

Quantum of Solace Two Disc Special Edition
Review created: 09/10/09
by:

As the film features lots of spectacular stunts, it was a bonus to watch the featurettes on the second disc which explain about how the film was made using clips, director, crew and Daniel Craig.
The film itself acts as a sequel to Casino Royale but is much grimmer with less tongue-in-cheek humour. For lovers of Bond and in particular Daniel Craig's portrayal of him however it is not to be missed.

  Quantum of Solace .
Review created: 27/09/09

I have seen all of the Bond films , so I had to see this one . I enjoyed Casino Royale and was looking forward to this follow up . However, I have to say I did not understand what was going on and the day after seeing it I can't really remember what it was about. The camera work is jerky at times and it is hard to see what is going on . I found myself playing parts back in slow motion . I am not impressed . Maybe it is partly because this is not based on a Fleming book. The title of this film comes from a short story in which Bond does not even figure.
