The 1500 is a great little DAB. If you are not sure about purchasing a larger version it is a good way to hear the quailty and have it on the move.
I was thrilled when I bought mine and use it all the time. Whilst MP3 players are good you can't beat DAB radio for the variety that you get.
Chill FM is my personal favourite, a great hangover cure or some just to help me relax, plus there are no adverts to irritate you.
BBC7 is the station for your comedy needs.
It's just fab........

  DAB radio, back to basics
Review created: 14/04/07

Finally we have decent quality radio..........gone are the days where you just get crackling and distortion. It's like the old TV to HD but in radio terms.
Provided you can receive the signal then you can relax to some fantastic radio stations that you cannot access with a normal FM radio.
Jazz FM, Chill FM and the old favourite RADIO 1 are the ones I listen to the most.
I have a pocketDAB the 1500. It's a great little radio. I bought one after buying a PURE CHRONOS DAB/CD player for our kitchen. I used that on so much I now have one I can use anywhere.
It's well worth the investment.

Great Product - shame about the digital network
Review created: 02/10/07
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

My wife bought me this TalkSport branded digital radio for a birthday gift, knowing that I like to keep up to date with all the sports news when I'm out and about, and by purchasing on line we saved a lot on the shop price.

The radio is about the size of the large Blackberry, with re-chargeable battery and decent earphones. The battery seems to have a good life and although the radio isn't the most intuitive bit of kit, it is very easy to use when you get used to it. Quality is top notch and it feels nice and solid but still not heavy.

All in all, it's a great little box of tricks, the only problem I have is with the digital network in this country, which as far as I can tell is made of string and sellotape. I'm not holding my breath waiting for HMG's IT people to finish it off, until they do I can't use the radio in or around my home here in the remote wilds of West Sussex, even though the digitalradionow website suggests I can. Then again, we're still waiting for Channel 5 on the TV...

Anyway, the radio is great when the reception is there and I'm sure this will improve in due course.

  Pure Pocket DAB 1500

Like: sound quality, ease of design for using 'underpillow at night'! Long renewable battery life with included charger, so minimal ongoing costs.

Not like so much:On-off switch too small/fiddly;

Dislike: £15 for protective cover (so didn't but one) - Pity no cover supplied as standard to minimise scratcing when carrying.

Why decided to buy? Because it had best overall reviews from other sources. Also, one of very few personal DABs with FM as well.

Review of a Pure DAB Digital personal radio

The reason I bought the DAB radio is that I already had one, a Philips, and it developed a serious fault after about 15 months. I was going to buy a Pure radio at the time but plumped for the better known (to me) brand. I am at this present moment highly delighted with the Pure DAB radio as it has better sound and looks a very strong construction, it also has an internal re-chargeable set of batteries which last 20 hours, very good! I have nothing negative to write about this product and I wish I had bought it first and not the Philips which was troublesome as the on/off switch mal functioned quite often.

  Excellent Radio

I have had a pure move and loved it but required a radio to use while out walking and this looked ideal. Reception in my home is poor; old FM radios only work on the stairs. My Dab Move, even with aerial fully extended, has poor reception in the kitchen but this little Portable plays perfectly. It even worked inside the ASDA and the local shopping mall. The sound quality is perfect and reception fantastic. I use it in the car through the AUX port and it plays brilliantly. Definitely the best portable radio I have had.

  DAB Pocket radio
Review created: 22/07/08
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I was getting very frustrated with previously owned pocket radios that Ive had that have switched channels every time I moved around. I wanted the radio for listening to while I am mucking out my Horse and moving around in the field, and also for listening to at work. This one Ive found stays with the station wherever I go and whatever I do bending up and down etc.which is good and is the main reason for its purchase, but I am still listening to the station on FM and experiencing some interferance at times.

I am very disapointed at not being able to tune into DAB on my favourite station despite the fact the it broadcasts on DAB as well as FM. I am still therefore listening on FM and wonder why I bothered to buy a DAB in the first place. Although the station stays with me I do get some crackling and interferance on FM and feel that if I could tune to DAB this problem might be solved. However, there seems to be only a few DAB stations that it can receive and unfortunately my Local BBC Radio Kent is not one of them.

pure 1500 DAB radio - good for walking

I live in west London, good reception outside. Lots of garbling on bus, no reception at all inside. Garbling in built up areas. If you want it for walking it's nice and light. recharable through the mains is good in my oppinion, but some people prefer batteries. I like the look and feel of this gadget and I dont think that the buttons are too small, some people think they are too fiddly. If you want it to use in the office or near the computer - use internet radio instead. V good radio if you want DAB. Easy to keep clean aswell (I work in a dusty environment).

Excellent pocket DAB & great battery life but pricey
Review created: 25/01/08
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Pros: Excellent battery life (24hrs stated); very good sound quality; best 'supplied' headphones I've come across (though not perfect); nice design and build quality seems robust.

Cons: Very expensive for a portable radio; Reception is good but seems a bit variable (and I'm in a good signal area) though this probably down to transmission strengths; Battery pack excellent but no option to use widely-available AA batteries.

I've tried a few DAB radios recently and so far none have really come up to scratch; this one is the closest so far! When I say reception isn't too good, that's probably not the fault of the 1500, transmissions strengh of DAB signals currently isn't very strong, and coverage is patchy anyway. This DAB from Pure holds the best signal of the portables I've had, which includes Sony's offering, excellent though it is it can't quite beat the Pure on signal strength.

The radio has excellent sound quality, and is supplied as standard with Sennheiser MX300 headphones, which are great although I've noticed they seem to clip/distort on certain sounds/frequencies, though this isn't generally too distracting. Controls are easy and simple to use, and the display shows all essential info and is easy to read, with a backlight also available, which usefully can be set to be on permanently. I was a little wary of the proprietary 'Chargepak' battery that comes with the 1500, but I feel the trade off of not being able to use AA batteries is more than compensated by the 24-hour battery life, meaning needing to carry spare batts about whilst out and about will be a thing of the past! Charges via supplied AC adapter.

Overall, this is a pocket DAB I think I'll be sticking with, the odd niggle but less than other pocket DABs have, signal reliability should increase over time, and this should prove to be a good companion when I (finally!) start doing some walking to get fit!

Incredibly lightweight and simple to use. Not sure how robust it would be if you managed to drop it on a hard floor though, as the housing is simply plastic - but all in all a good product

Would suggest a good pair of headphones as the ones that it come with are OK, just nothing special

  Great Little Digital Radio
Review created: 07/04/09
by:

I like this little radio very much.

It fits nicely into a pocket and you can lock all the settings to that it won't change station, volume or eve n accidentally switch off while you are moving around.

The reception is superb most of the time - only falling out when I'm in some dark corner when you'd expect any radio to struggle.

Tuning and setting your favourite preset stations is very easy and once the presets are saved, changing stations is very quick. The sound quality is superb too.

The only criticism I have is that for me personally, the jump between volume settings is too great. When I'm listening, I sometimes find the one setting too high but the next lower setting is too low. Pity they couldn't be infinitely variable.

An excellent upgrade from the PocketDAB1000. Light and stylish and sleek in black. A better set of headphones. Good sound quality. And the best feature the rechargeable chargepak battery - a massive improvement as the last one used to eat batteries. 24 hours battery life. All in all highly recommended - Pure continue to hold their rightful place at the top of the DAB Radio products

  quality product
Review created: 23/06/08

I was given one of these radios for christmas and was so pleased with its performance that when it was damaged I purchased an identical one from Ebay. I was worried how good a reception i'd get being such a small unit but I receive the full range of digital radio stations and they are all crystal clear. The battery is excellent and a full charge will play 24hrs continuous radio. Rechargable battery means no messing about with disposables. Advantages are lightweight, portable, can listen to radio anywhere, plenty of pre-set station spaces. 10 out of 10.

Reception leaves a lot to be desired
Review created: 11/06/08

This is a great little radio if you are concerned about recycling and want to avoid constantly replacing batteries. However, it is marketed as a 'pocket' radio, I am a DAB radio fan and thought I would get a pocket radio so that I could continue listening to programs while on my way to and from work, but this radio uses the earphones as an aerial which doesn't seem to work too well if you actually move around. So in short, great for listening to DAB when stationary, not at all suitable for listening on the move.
The display is excellent and the intuitive controls quick and easy to master. The machine is lightweight and of a reasonable size. I haven't listened to FM on it so can't comment about the FM reception.

Pure DAB 1500 v Ferguson DAB
Review created: 10/05/08

I have a Ferguson Dab radio but the batteries run down very quickly. The Pure Digital Pocket DAB 1500 is great. I don't have to keep it plugged into the electricity, the battery lasts quite a long time. I am really pleased with it. Would recommend it.

  Pure 1500 Pocket DAB Radio
Review created: 10/04/08

I bought this to listen to commentaries, scores etc whilst at football matches.VHF reception is only average at my home ground and the LW is very unreliable. The Pure 1500 DAB reception is first rate and preset stations are easily toggled through, even when wearing gloves! The Sennheiser earpieces are comfortable and give really clear sound that holds its own even against the background noise of a soccer crowd! The unit is slightly bigger than my old VHF radio, but it still fits easily in a coat pocket and the weight is insignificant.

The only downside is the delay in the DAB broadcast - the commentary is, therefore, slightly behind what you are looking at on the pitch - but I don't often listen to the game I'm actually watching! Overall, I'm delighted with my purchase.
