As easy on the eye as the ear

The Pure ONE is the benchmark for small DAB receivers. The Pure Elan is a logical step upwards, looking like a proper radio and having the advantage of stereo output.
Visually, the Elan is an item that could sit happily anywhere in the home. The external power supply is a low-voltage adaptor, so only a thin wire has to be run to the radio. If you want to be truly mobile then the Elan can run off six “C” cells but, as with all DAB receivers, battery life is comparatively short – 80 hours of FM use drops to 30 hours of DAB use. This isn’t an issue with PURE – it’s an issue with the DAB chipsets; they use rather more than the handful of transistors used by the traditional transistor radio.
That aside, the Elan is a very pleasant item to use. The out-of-box initial set-up is automatic and completes in short-order. The only shortcoming is that the Elan is not as sensitive a DAB receiver as the ONE, but this being an actual issue will depend entirely upon local conditions. If you have less than a full digital house at the end of the set-up, at least the Elan doubles up as a very competent FM radio – but you probably already have one of those.
