The Pretenders - The Singles (CD 1987)

If, like me, you're a fan of Chryssie Hynde's haunting, plaintive tones, the band's punchy baselines and melodious guitar riffs, or you simply find yourself recalling with fondness the rock scene of the late seventies/early eighties, or you're too young to remember it and you're sorry you missed it in the first place, you'll really appreciate this anthology of their 45s. Hearing them in succession like this makes you aware of the subtle changes in style that occurred over the years, but the over-riding consistent factor is the tight musicianship that characterised this great rock and roll band. The only downside is the rather out-of-character inclusion of "I've Got You Babe", Chryssie's joint venture with UB40; it very much comes across as something of an afterthought - switch off after track 15, the memorable "My Baby" for a lasting effect.

  Pretenders Magic

The Pretenders are one of the best groups of all time. I am delighted to be able to add this to my cd collection as I unfortunately mislaid my original copy. I am so happy that the group have reformed and am hoping to be able to see them when they start touring again. Every one of their singles are well worth listening to especially for the sexy, sultry tones of Chrissie Hynde.I decided to buy this cd to add to the long playing record I have of the same title.I couldn't believe the low price I had to pay for this item.

  The Pretenders-The Singles 1987

Having owned this on vinyl many years ago, it was good to hear all the hits again. They haven't dated in the least. My particular favourites are " I go to sleep " and " Thin line between love and hate". Just wonderful to have an 80's wallow. Chrissie Hynde never sounded better.

The Pretenders - Greatest Hits CD

Great CD from The Pretenders.

Hits frm late 70's to mid 80's.

Brass in pocket is featured, their fist single on 1978, and the music goes all the way to the mid 80's (Talk of the town and Stop your sobbing).

Still going after all these years!

Digital upgrade of an "old faithful" that was starting to show its age after years of use in the car.
Still as original as when first released, with timeless songs based on sharp lyrics and punchy melodies

  THE PRETENDERS THE SINGLES

I like the fact that it has all their best tracks, but I don't like all the tracks. This is only a minor point, but the album is still a very good selection of their work. I decided to buy it as I like the music of The Pretenders and especially the voice of Chrissie Hynes. It would have been nice to have had some better pictures of her on the slleve !
