This was an out of the blue buy, simply because it was cheap. However I was more than pleasantly surprised! The casting was perfect for the gripping - and always surprising - plot.

The story of magician one-upmanship sounds amusing, but Nolan manages to turn it into something much more sinister, until even the audience are desperate to know... just how does he do it?

A fantastic film, though perhaps not one for the kids. If you like this, you may also enjoy "The Illusionist".

Dir: Christopher Nolan

I loved Batman Begins by Christopher Nolan and also starrin Bale as Batman so had high hopes for this. I saw a couple of posters for it but never saw any trailers. Watched it last nite and couldn't take my eyes off it. It is the best film I've seen in agesssss. It's about 2 magicians from Victorian times tryna get one up on the other. Great twists and turns and the end is pure quality.

9/10

It says on the DVD cover "Once you see "The Prestige", you'll want to see it again". I saw it and wanted to see if there were clues earlier in the film. There were. Brilliant film.

This is a great film, sheer entertainment. It's suitable for the family to get in a pizza and pretend their all in the flicks. David Bowie actually plays a great part for a change. The rest of the cast are great anyway. We thoroughly enjoyed it.

Great film! Exciting, well-acted and a phenomenal twist! Bale and Jackman bounce well off each other and the rivalry that deepens between them is constantly gripping as you are not sure which character you want to win...

Sir Michael Caine just gets better and better with age

Really enjoyed the film when my daughter lent it to me so bought my own copy. Bale and Jackman were good but, as is usuual in the supporting roles he tends to specialise in nowadays, Caine stole the show. Also thought Bowie's cameo was brilliantly understated.

A very intriguing film. I would really like to watch the film again as there was so much going on. I really wanted to see it because of the references to Nikola Tesla and his experiments with electricity. Would recommend it anyone who likes a bit more from a story.

I love Hugh Jackman and this film did not disappoint it's got magic drama, revenge and a complicated under story that is revealed at the end the cast was awesome along side Hugh Jackman was his on screen rival Christian Bale the beautiful assistant Scarlett Johansson the legendary Michael Caine and the almost unrecognisable David Bowie a must see for any magic fan try and guess the final trick and the big secret i was shocked.

Confused and action all the way through. The ending still left me thinking about all the different possibilities of what i'd just seen. Also has a nice link to history too. Only pet hate is Bale's English accent he puts on, shocking haha.

A dark, gripping story beautifully filmed. I'd seen it before at the cinema and I was stunned. The reason I bought it was because my uncle is always going on about Tesla, so I though it would be cool to watch it over xmas... I don't think he or my family enjoyed it as much as me though, never mind. Complex, detailed, psychological and ultimately slightly disturbing. If you liked Memento then I recommend this film, although you might not like the ending... I loved it. Michael Caine is god as usual and the others are also on good form.

  Don't Read the Book First!!
Review created: 11/01/09
by:

Do you ever read a book then watch the film and spend the whole time criticising the film makers for not sticking to the story? I am so glad I didn't read the book first in this case. This is a fantastic film, but not one you want to watch with people talking over (or other things!) - you really need to watch it properly. Don't think too much about what's going on or you'll confuse yourself, it all explains itself in the end. I found it even great to watch second time round. By all means read the book afterwards, it's just as gripping but totally different in a lot of ways. It's almost like two similar things with the same title, rather than being the same story. I read the book after watching the DVD and was struck by how different it was, but I couldn't put it down. Then I watched the film again and it was amazing how many little things I'd missed. If you don't like period dramas just forget what it says about that in the film - the setting fits the story perfectly. The feel wouldn't be the same in modern times. I'm not saying any more, you can read the dvd cover for yourself, but I promise you'll be glad you tried it

  The Prestige, what a film!!
Review created: 04/12/08

This film is one of the best films I have seen, Christian Bale is superb in this film. The whole story is compelling and keeps your attention span drawn throughout. With stella performances by Hugh Jackman and Michael Cain all going to make this a film you will want to see time and time again to find all the clever links.
I bought this DVD as I am starting a collection of Christian Bale's movies. In a diffrent direction, I recommend anyone to buy Equilibrium, another fantastic Bale movie.

I purchasd the dvd firstly because it was HD and I had read alot about the film but had not seen it. The film certainly lived up to the reviews I had read and the quality of the picture was definitely much better in HD. A very clever film that keeps your attention until the end. Great performances by all involved.

I decided to buy it because its subject matter was very different to the usual crash, bang, wallop of modern special effects fims/it is a period film so it won`t date/and I happen to like all the stars. Having seen it I must say it is a very intriguing film and although I did finally work it out I will now watch it again to see the story pan out without having to concentrate on sussing out the end . An excellent film which is very different.

  Magical Film
Review created: 07/03/08

When I first bought this I wasn't expecting too much from it. The story sounded as if it could be a little boring and after about a month of having the DVD i finally watched it. Wow!
This is one of the best films I have seen in a long time. The story is engrossing and keeps you hooked from the second you start watching. There are lots of plot twists which make you gasp. The acting by the leads is some of the best I have seen, the music fits the mysterious nature of the film...
This is just a great movie that everyone should see.
9.5/10

Cracking movie that I would not normally be attracted to watch. I watched it on Sky because my book '1001 movies to watch before you die' suggested it and I am glad it did. I bought the dvd after watching it so I can watch it again and again. Great cast and acting. Cracking narrative. Some nice twists that only fall into place in the last scene. Well worth seeing. I know you'll like it!

Fantastic film, need to watch it more than once, once you know the twists; but that makes it even more enjoyable, that you get to watch it multiple times and enjoy it more each time. Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale are both excellent and Im sure the ladies will agree that a bit of topless Hugh Jackman never goes amiss! lol!
