Compact or SLR

A compact digital camera but with an SLR body very light and easily held in one hand with point and shoot.
8-x optical zoom and 4-x digital zoom this camera also sports a 1.6” screen as well as a viewfinder.
Battery consumption quite high if left on all the time best using re-chargeable but will at some point shut itself down to save power.
Take s 4-x AA batteries, has an onboard 16mb memory card, and takes an SD card as well.
If using the onboard memory card you will be restricted to the amount of photo’s you will be able to take especially if taking them at 5-6 megapixel quality (about 2-3 only).
Bit OTT on gadgets for what it has and is capable of doing. Can be quite time consuming to setup while out on site if you want to do picture editing and I found this far better to just upload the pictures to the computer and edit from there.
What should be supplied with the camera if buying used, CD-rom, shoulder strap and USB cable.
The CD rom not only has drivers on it for using it with win 98 (not required for XP or Vista) but also has picture editing software as well I think (good while since I used the disc).
SD card required best opting for at least 500mb upwards but we used a 128mb.
Picture quality excellent I just could not fault it for that and when uploaded to the computer being able to zoom the picture in further was brilliant.
I would rate the camera as excellent purely because Praktica makes it and I use a Praktica 35mm SLR unit and I have had no problems with them both.
