Police Squad - The Complete Series (DVD)

Found myself watching Naked Gun the other night and remembered just how funny it was, only seen a couple of the shows on tv so thought I may as well get it. Glad I did too as its pure comedy genius

lesley neilsen at his best in this 70@s police spoof,bad gags and slapstic from a varied cast,an absolute must for 40 + people who like a laugh.

So much going on in every scene... Takes me back to original veiwing when TV many years ago !!

I loved this series when I first saw it. I can understand why they didn't make a second series as most yanks didn't get the humor, no surprise there. I grew up in the 70s watching greap yank cop shows like The Streets of San Francisco (a Quinn Martin production) and Kojak etc. and Police Squad was a great parody of these. Highly recommended and the cap who sold me this was great, nice low price and superfast delivery, just a pity the post office decided to do Riverdance on the parcel before I got it - the case was smashed to bits, it was a miracle the DVD wasn't damaged. Is it me or are the post office getting worse and worse with parcels? Thats the second parcel thats arrived damaged for me this year! Anyway, enjoy this DVD, it's great!

Having bought all of the Naked Gun films it made sense to get Police Squad, as this was where it all started. Leslie Neilson is at his deadpan best. If you don't laugh at this brilliant DVD go and see your doctor immediately as you need urgent treatment!

Being a big fan of the ZAZ (Zucker Abrahams Zucker) movies i knew about this tv show that was cancelled after only 6 episodes. Starring Leslie Nielsen as LTD Frank Drebin, the show spoof the Quinn Martin style cop shows (voice over, 3 acts stories, etc...) but with the ZAZ treatment: visual gags, non sense dialogues and parody. A must have if your are a fan of the ZAZ movies.

POLICE SQUAD IS A TRUE CLASSIC, WHICH MAKES IT MORE OF A SURPRISE THAT WHEN ORIGINALLY ON TV IN THE U.S IT FLOPPED.

LESLIE NEILSON PLAYS FRANK DREBIN, A DETECTIVE WHO HAS TO SOLVE VARIOUS CASES.
UNLIKE THE LIKES OF MORSE, DREBIN DOESN'T TAKE THINGS SERIOUSLY AND NEITHER DOES LIFE AROUND HIM.
ANY SHOW WHICH FEATURES LINES SUCH AS "CIGARETTE?, YES I KNOW", IS NEVER GOING TO BE A THINKING MANS SHOW.
POLICE SQUAD IS TOTALLY HARMLESS FUN, NEVER NEEDING TO RESORT TO COURSE LANGUAGE, OVER THE TOP VIOLENCE OR PUTTING PEOPLE DOWN.
WHEN LIVING IN TIMES THAT WE DO, THE WORLD NEEDS A BIT OF FRANK DREBIN.

I bought the Police squad DVD because i had seen a very short part of one of the episodes and thought it was hilarious. I really appreciate the relentless one liner jokes and stupid humor, such as "who are you and how did you get in!?!" "im a burgler and...... im a burgler".
The only thing I dont like about the series is the repetetive nature; jokes are not quite as funny the sixth time round.
Very happy with my purchase though, would recomend it to anyone who likes childish one liners.

Excellent DVD ...non stop laughter...If you liked airplane movies and hotshots ...this is the original ...

Police Squad is a forgotten gem,which thankfully spawned three spin off films as such(Frank Drebin being in The Naked Gun trilogy).There isn't many comedies you can say that about!This is one of those shows where there are as many 'behind the scenes' gags going on as there are in the forefront of the scenes - You've got to keep watching what's going on all the time.I thought of it as being a lot older;1982 I think it came out;unless it just seems to have been set nearer the 70's in the classic style of the Quinn Martin productions of that time.
Leslie Neilsen steals the show with his deadpan delivery of lines,whilst all around him is falling apart.Alan North ably assists as Neilsen's boss,and gets his fair share of classic one liners also.
The series only ran for this six episodes,and then was dropped in America.Unbelievable really,and a real travesty that there weren't more to watch.
The dvd itself is ok in that there are a few extras on there - I wasn't really expecting anything,as 'Out-takes' weren't really the be all and end all of shows then,and were more likely to be consigned to the cutting room floor,but somebody had the sense to save some.A short interview with Leslie Nielsen is also on there.
If you like the Airplane duo,or the Naked Gun trilogy,then this dvd will bring them all together - You are sure to love it.Buy it now,and have loads of great laughs from an unbelievably under-rated show.

If you liked the Naked Gun films, Airplane etc then you will like this from messrs Zuckers and Abraham. Police Squad was wriiten as a vehicle for Leslie Nielson and he is perfect for it. Now 25 plus years old, the humour still stands up on its own merit and gives you a laugh. If you are are fan of comedy, you have to watch this! Daftness personified.
