This is the classic series of films starting with planet of the apes first out in 1968. If the review had been for the one film it would have rated an excellent rating, It is as the series progresses that like so many sequels and prequels the original idea becomes a little tired, thus the good rating. This set is enhanced by the excellent disk about the making of the film. Recommended.

A must for anyone, a chance to see the whole story,
This collection follows the characters, from a future generation where humans are dominated by apes, it follows their development from zoo animal, to pet, to slave, to rebellion, to total dominance of human kind. Right up to the future, where everyone gets the chance to decide, whether to follow their original path, that ultimately leads to their own destruction, or to live & work alongside ach other????
The characters are very interesting & believable, the costume/makeup also very good for it's time.
Overall, it's excellent viewing no matter if you've seen it before or not.

Marvelous Work In the THX DIGITALLY REMASTERED...
Review created: 20/11/06
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Story: This deluxe box set features the five PLANET OF THE APES movies, beginning with the 1968 original (starring Charlton Heston, Roddy McDowall, and Kim Hunter), in which a group of astronauts find themselves stranded on a world where apes evolved from humans, only to learn the shocking surprise about humanity's future.
BENEATH THE PLANET OF THE APES, the second installment in the PLANET OF THE APES series, finds another astronaut (James Franciscus) following in his predecessor's time-wandering footsteps to the planet ruled by highly evolved apes. There he encounters a group of nuclear holocaust survivors living in Grand Central Station and worshipping the very atomic warhead that destroyed their world.
ESCAPE FROM PLANET OF THE APES, the third chapter in the series, finds ape heroes Cornelius (McDowall) and Zira (Hunter) in 1970s Los Angeles. They have traveled back in time, but soon find that they have enemies in the past as well as the present.
In CONQUEST OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, an intelligent ape (McDowall, playing the son of his other APES character, Cornelius) from the far future leads an army of simian servants in a revolt against their human masters. This fourth film features the most explosive subtext of any in the series, along with a sleek, futuristic production design.
The fifth and final episode, BATTLE FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES, features a community of intelligent apes living in harmony with a group of humans after the collapse of human civilization. However, a band of mutants who reside beneath a destroyed city try to conquer those they perceive as enemies.
This comprehensive collection also includes the feature-length documentary BEHIND THE PLANET OF THE APES, hosted by McDowall.

Comments: Marvelous Work In the THX DIGITALLY REMASTERED...

I enjoy ENORMOUSLY all those old classic movies such as this masterpiece '' Planet Of The Apes '' witch are Digitally THX Remastered.

It's as if your watching a brand new movie, awesome great, truely wonderful.

Planet Of The Apes clearly describes a upside-down society where a planet is ruled by apes & not by humans, clearly stating all that flaws in a human.

At the end it is shown that it is NOT a foreign planet, BUT earth itself, IN the future!

Conclusion and/or assumption ( since movie was of the 1960's where people were demonstrating on mass-scale against nuclear research ) was made that a nuclear bomb, nuclear fallout or atomic war had been in the past resulting this devastating effect that now the apes have won & conquered humans & rule the earth now.

The Most Famous Line by Charles Heston '' Get Your Damm paws of me, you damm dirty ape '' is a classic line that many moviefans remember & will always remember.

If you do NOT have this movie in your collection yet, purchase it a.s.a.p. as it will enrich your collection by far.

Nice boxset, bluray not as simple as dvd
Review created: 05/07/09

i bought this boxset on blu-ray as they where my favourite films as a kid for their picture quality and sound.anyway one of the films would not work it would start then as the film was about to begin the screen would go blank, when i asked about this problem i was told that my blu-ray player is out of date and i have to up-grade the firmware on it.i only bought it new 5 months ago. i never heard of firmware before. what i gathered is i have to download it from computer on a usb and then into the blu-ray, what nonsence. why are companies making blu-ray players if they cant play all blu-ray disc. they have to sort this problem out soon. it has turned me off buying blu-ray disc again.

  Childhood Memories
Review created: 09/03/08

When I saw this box-set for sale I jumped at the chance to own it based on my enjoyment as a child watching all of these films, plus the spin off series on a Saturday morning. bearing in mind these films are approaching 30 years old, the costumes, make up/special effects were truly ahead of their time and, coupled with some totally convincing acting from the legendary dapper british gentleman Roddy Macdowell these films were hugely entertaining.
When the newer version was released I was at the front of the queue eagerly awaiting to be enthralled but although the film wasn't bad and the effects were more technically believable I couldn't help but be a little disappointed with the story portrayal.
Needless to say, as these original films are relatively aged, they will probably only appeal to the generation like me, who grew up with 'Planet of the Apes'.
The first in the set is arguably the best, followed by four quite poor sequels, each sequel in turn slightly worse than the previous one but hey, it generated so many memories for me it was worth watching them for that alone.
Incidentally, for you film buffs out there, did you know Charlton Heston who appeared as a main character in the first film followed by a rather cameo appearance in the second, was also in the recent version, playing General Thaid's father? He also had a bit of a twist on one of his lines, where he said 'damn those humans, damn them all to hell'. Of course you know in the original his last line upon realising he was actually on earth post nuclear apocolypse was 'damn them, damn them all to hell'.

How many times can you watch this
Review created: 03/03/08

Watched these on TV over and over. Brilliant. Have just bought the DVD's so I can now watch them when I want.
Superb, if silly, story line. Acting is good though. Start of feeling sorry for the astonauts but end up feeling sorry for the Apes.

Six disc 'Planet of The Apes' collection.
Review created: 14/12/07

Having seen the first film of 'Planet of The Apes' and parts of the second, I had wanted to see the whole series. Then I happened to get the original book in the library. That got me determined to buy the films. I found the boxed set on ebay, and luckily won them. I have really enjoyed watching them, and also find them very thought provoking. It makes me realise how cruel the human race can be. Or perhaps it is power that makes living creatures cruel. I would recommend everyone to watch these films, and look deeper than the overview. Hope you find as much fulfillment from them that I have. Thankyou.

Planet of the apes - A childhood dream
Review created: 05/11/06

Ever since i first seen planet of the apes as a child in the cinemas i have always been fascinated by the movie and saw this purchase of the entire collection as a sound investment and an enjoyable one, to which i am more than happy to have aquired. I am always on the lookout for boxsets of DVD's especially in the film series type i.e. JAWS 1,2,3. and so on. More than happy with the condition of the DVD's and would happily trade with the same person again. I see ebay as a one stop world market which gives me infinate choice with the added attraction of never having to leave my room, talk about your one stop shopping ebay takes some beating for choice and price. I have been using ebay now for getting on i think 5 years and could not be happier. And look forward to many more years of happy ebaying.
