This film is comedic genius!

Martin and Candy were never better than they are in this film. Every scene in is fantastic and hilarious. You obviously have the classic scenes 'those aren't pillows', Martin trying to hire a car at the airport and the both of them sharing a car before it ends up going on fire.

When you look at the so called comedies Martin makes nowadays it is pretty safe to say that this was his last great performance.

I have lost count of the amount of times I have watched this film but the one thing that amazes me is that no matter how many times you watch it you still laugh at the same scenes.

Its a shame that Martin and Candy never got to make any more films as they played off each other perfectly and maybe thats what makes the film so special.

This is quite honestly one of the funniest films I have ever seen. Anyone who has had to avail themselves of public transport on the eve of a festive season weekend will cry with laughter and cringe with recognition at the series of disasters that befall Steve Martin as he tries to get home for Thanksgiving. (Just think Christmas in UK) John Candy is superb as Martin's unwanted travelling companion. Whilst this film leaves no stone unturned storyline wise, it is still a lovely family film. Well worth watching.

This is a very funny comedy which I would unequivocally recommend. The chemistry between the two main stars is arguably the film's biggest asset as we get the opportunity to journey with our intrepid heroes from New York to Chicago as Neal Page (Steve Martin) attempts to return home for the Thanksgiving holidays. The film's main comedic moments come from the calamitous consequences of their unlikely companionship. I don't really know why Del Griffith is following Neal is his attempts to get to Chicago as his wife is dead and he has no family or home as we later discover in the movie. Shame no sequel was ever made as I would have liked to have known what came of Del, the jovial shower curtain ring salesman. "Deeellll Griffith, how the hell are yer."

One of the best comedy films around!

I love this comedy. It is one of those films that is not only hilarious, but leaves you with a good feeling, having taught you a lesson on diversity, tolerance and compassion in the zaniest way.
Yes,we all know someone like Del Griffith, and usually try to avoid them like the plague! Your sympathies will lie with Neal Page at first, but the loveable shower curtain salesman, Del, gradually works his way into your heart.
I found this DVD while looking for Steve Martin comedy films. Although there is a bit choice in this category, Trains, Planes and Automobiles is definitely one of the best.
If you've never seen it, you don't know what your're missing. Buy it - you won't be sorry!

Well worth a look! Classic comedy from a sadly missed actor, John Candy, alongside Steve Martin. Slapstick in places, but with an easy going mood all through the film. Two souls trying to get home for one of Americas great festivals...Thanksgiving.

One of the best comedy movies of all time.Steve Martin at his finest and a great performance from the late john candy playing the victim who unwittingly is the cause of all the woes these lovable characters suffer. This is a film you must watch before you die as your life would not be complete without doing so.Put the kids to bed and relax and watch with a nice glass of wine and enjoy

  Planes, Trains & Automobiles DVD
Review created: 12/08/08

In my opinion one of the best comedy films ever!! I previously owned this on vhs and when I saw at a bargain price on dvd on ebay I snapped it up. No matter how many times I watch it I still end up in fits of laughter. John Candy & Steve Martin star as 2 people who lives become entwined when their flight is delayed and they end up sharing lifts, a train, motel rooms and more. My favourite bit is where the hire car they have catches fire on the motorway and ends up a burnt shell but they continue to drive it and get stopped by police who ask if the car is roadworthy! John Candy replies Yes it is, the radio still works! A great film for all the family to watch & a welcome addition to my DVD collection. 10/10

Hilariously funny but very touching at times. John Candy was a terrific actor and was particularly good at playing the irritating, but can't help but like, characters. Any film with him starring is worth buying.

A good all round comedy but language bad. Not PG!
Review created: 04/01/07

I just wanted a copy of this old movie. A classic. It has many slow bits in it, but the comedy is worth waiting for. To me this is Steve Martin at his best. Also John Candy, in this and Uncle Buck are my favourites.
