  Phoenix Nights - Series 1 And 2 (DVD 2003)

The characters are spot-on, (my wife is from Manchester, and i have seen these characters in real pubs & clubs up there.) Peter Kay has a knack of recreating characters from real people up north. He adds another great touch by inviting real people into the club as the audience in some of the scenes. A new great british classic. This series was spawned from 'That Peter Kay Thing' & went on to produce 'Max & Paddy's Road to Nowhere'. A must for any Peter Kay fan.

Phoenix Nights is extremely funny played by Peter Kay, Patrick McGuiness, Dave Spikey and many more although there isn't many episodes each one is very funny on it's own.

  What A Treat!

I love Peter Kay but had never seen his Phoenix Nights Series so once I obtained it off of Ebay there was no stopping me! It is such a realistic take on 'everyday' life within the working mens clubs. I laughed so much, many of the 'jokes' are very subtle and many you don't actually discover at first until you have viewed it once more. For me it is one of my favourite comedy series. Peter Kay plays 'Brian Potter' wheelchair bound club owner fantastically and I am in no doubt there are very many characters out there like him. The cast are a dream to watch and well chosen for the parts they play. Thanks Peter for this great series, what would really put the icing on the cake is a 3rd Series...but at least we have Series one and two to keep us entertained if and when this does happen!

Exellent use of lines and puns. The more you watch it the more you notice.

The use of characters and props in one to remember. Brian potter is exellent and Kenny senoir is quality with his lies.

Highly recommended once you have watch one you will be hooked.

I suggest you dont watch too many at once, space them out over a couple of days and you will be hooked.

  Bloody Funny!

As with "That Peter Kay thing" and "Max and Paddys road to nowhere" this is where Peter Kay shines. Playing several characters throughout the two series this is amongst some of the funniest British sitcoms ever created. Peter Kay would not be out of place among Ronnie Barker Eric Morecambe and Tommy Cooper as one of Britains greatest comedians.

Tha story centers around the Phoenix club and the people who work there. Kay plays the ownner Brian Potter and Max the bouncer (and later plays the return of Keith Lard the fire safety inspector from That Peter Kay thing). Dave Spikey plays Jerry Sinclair the clubs compere and various people you will recognise from other Brit sitcoms appear as employees and club regulars.

Amongst some of the funniest moments are the turns appearing at the Phoenix which include a racist folk group and a lancashire cowboy act complete with horse!

10/10 top stuff!

  Phoenix Nights - Series 1 & 2

Bought this for my sister who had watched my copies and thought it was the funniest thing she had seen in years. Not liked by everyone, my wife and daughter dont find it funny at all but my son, sister and brother-in-law sat with tears rolling down our faces watching it. Some scenes are not for young viewers as can be quite crude in places, but certainly very funny. Series 2 is better than Series 1 but both are very good

Phoenix Nights - Peter Kay at his best
Review created: 05/01/08

I like Peter Kay's comedy, it is funny, but I think he is far too aware of how funny he is. His stand up is hilarious, but it annoys me that he repeats almost everything he says just to make sure that everybody understands how funny it was, "d'you want t'ambulance Mrs Kay, want t'ambulance". Other comedians don't feel the need to do this and there are many funnier than Peter Kay.

However, Phoenix nights IS funny! Each character plays his/her part really well and it is layered so each time you watch it it gets funnier and you spot things you didn't the previous times. Trust me, you may not get it the first time, but watch the episode again and you will.

Although I do really like Phoenix Nights I gave it a "good" score because it is better than average, but for me "Red Dwarf", "Bottom" and "Black Books" are excellent.

Watch the credits, some of the auditions are brill.
