Philips Magic 3-2 fax machine

I bought this machine for a good price on eBay, and so far it's been very good. Be aware that it ships with a small inkfilm cartridge which you'll use a fair bit during the setup process, so shop around for a full-size cartridge. The machine is highly conformable but easy to set up. It comes with a proper multi-page A4 user manual (big plus point) and it's worth going through the manual in detail to make sure that you're getting the most out of the machine.
As well as sending and receiving faxes (still a relevant form of communication for a lot of us) the machine also sends and receives SMS texts. To assist in this process it has a qwerty keyboard. There's also a DECT handset, which I prefer to the usual cabled job. You can link additional handsets which this unit will control; just be sure to set the default to not print received texts, or you'll be buying another inkfilm cartridge in short order.
Add to this a hands-free facility, a single-page copying facility and a built-in answering machine, and you have an excellent device to sit next to your computer, which is what mine does. Faxes print out "vertically" rather than being spat out of the front of the machine, so you don't need a lot of space in front of it.
A couple of gripes; firstly, the 18 seconds allowed to record your welcome message isn't very long if you want to include, say, a mobile number for callers to use, and secondly the welcome message I tried to record got progressively drowned out by what sounds like radio interference, so I use the prerecorded default greeting which ain't too bad, or my other external dedicated TAM.
Finally, there's a clever comprehensive phone directory on the base unit which you can access via the handset.
All in all, an efficient, easy-to-use piece of kit.
