Philips GoGear SA3245 4 GB media player with FM radio

This is a nice, basic, mobile-phone-sized digital media player with FM radio (includes the facility to record the FM radio). Sound is good, much better than the Chinese "nanos" I normally buy, boots up quickly, has about an 8 hour battery life - again more than double the best Chinese "nanos" I have bought (the manual says up to 20 hours but mine was bought cheaply as old stock). It only plays SMV Video, and as I don't have any SMV files I haven't tried this yet (there is a Video converter on the accompanying disc). Comes with quick start guide, good quality earphone, USB charging cable (larger size size mini usb connector at the player end). Also software disc with conversion software and a full pdf manual. Charges from PC only I think, and PC needs to be on as far as I can see which is a little bit of a nuisance. Won't charge from a 5v 500ma charger - may charge from a 5v 1000ma one. The files it plays directly include: MP3 and WMA audio, SMV video, BMP, JPG and WMV. LCD screen is 220 x 176 pixels, 65k colours. 310mAh Lithium ion rechargeable battery. Headphone has 3.5mm jack. Screen is very clear and easy to read. I would thoroughly recommend this at the price I paid (£28 for a 4GB version) but there are players which do far more, now, for the full £65 or so price. I have found the menus a bit quirky - I can't fathom albums or songlists (MP3 player) and have only managed to scroll down through each song individually. Putting things on in folders (drag and drop from Windows) didn't seem to help at all, the "songs" are still just listed indvidually on the player menu and when you try to scroll through "artists" you just get "unknown artists". But as I just put on what I want to listen to, that's fine for me. For the FM preset stations, I had quite a struggle with these though did manage in the end and once set they work fine. Overall I am very happy with it, the sound is good, it looks nice and seems fairly robust. There is a "hold" button and the volume is set directly from the side of the player.
