Philips DVDR3480 DVD Recorder

I have bought this recorder to record from my Digi box HD recorder, which only has a scart out.

I have 'archived' several series of programs and one neat feature of the recorder is the recording quality. For a kids series I have used Long Play, which enables 6 hours of recording, enough for 12 episode of this program. The playback at this quality is a little grainy, but when getting this much on a single DVD they has to be a compromise.

Setting the recorder to SP a 4.7GB DVD will allow up to 2 hours. The playback quality here is absoluelty perfect. Great for films where ou want a bit more quality.

The recorder also drops in automatic chapter markers at around every 7 minutes, which is actually more helpful than it sounds.

Once your recording is on the DVD you can then name each recording, and the DVD itself, to make recognising the playback tracks easier.

This DVD recorder is now very affordable, from around £40, and it offers great value at this price. There are many features of this recorder that I have not used but I decided on this model because of the wide features it has, giving me the option to expand my use later on.

We had previously been forced to take a DVD recorder back to the retailer because, quite frankly, we couldn't sort out how to make it record...and we're not stupid !

We checked on google to see if there was such a thing as a user friendly bit of kit and opinions varied widely. One machine that did seem OK was the Philips DVDR3480. Seemed OK to set up and OK to record. Next step was to check for bargains...so onto Ebay. Here we found a machine that was marked up on Google as high as £134.00. We found a brand new machine from a reputable retailer at £47.00 delivered. Delivery time was fast. The machine was easy to set up and only an idiot would be unable to make it record. Great machine, great price, great service !

its a great item, its work fine, just as i expected. it does great recording. its picture quality is excellent. the best thing is it accepts all disk formats to play.

this item was bought partly because it enabled me to down load music and movies on my computer store them on a dongal and watch them on my tv without any extra leads or connections and enjoy them in there full glory,also because i can connect my camcorder and watch my home movies,there are many other functions that i have not yet explored however the manuel states that there are options to connect mp3s and i can record films of sky and tv excellent buy would recomend highly

After owning the previous model the 3380 this one is a big improvement, first of all the added bonus of a usb port to connect various usb applications is superb & one of the reasons i bought it as the 3380 didn't support usb.

I use it to play movies from a usb memory stick which it does alot quicker & smoother than most dvd players that have a usb port.

The menus have been made alot simpler & the unit as a whole is alot faster, doesn't take an age to power up like the older version did.

If you are after a dvd recorder that will play almost anything this is the one for you.

If you want hdmi connection, hard drive & all the bells & whistles get the Philips DVDR5520/05

iam not really a fan of philips products but i find that this particular item was cheap couldnt of bought a funai for the price and this machine is a rolls compared, its great its all region i can record from sky from tv from my other dvd thro av, the+RW disk are very cheap to buy, very good reproduction, most satisfied++++++++++++++++

good price and playes all my dvds all the format also you can plug and play the usb straight away and playes the divx format also it is very slim design avery nice looking which makes it easy to fit everywhere you like

I like this machine's versatility - the fact that it can record on virtually any format DVD, it can play DIVX movies, it's multi-region hackable and it can transfer stuff to my PC (well, my laptop at least).

I love the fact that I got this wonderful box from ebay for £20 less than my local supermarket was charging.

Two things I'm not keen on - the aesthetics of the box and the zapper. These are pretty minor. I bought it to look at what it plays not at itself and the zapper is at least an improvement on the one for the Cyberhome 1600 which it was bought to replace.

Choosing the DVDR3480/05 was a no brainer - features and cost meant that nothing else came close.

I purchased this recorder because it was not a digital since I do not get a good digital reception,and I do not have sky.
I realise we will be going to lose the terrestial ia a year or two,but since the recorder only cost a little over £50 it is a worthwhile purchase.
It works fine and is easy to use so I am very happy with it.

Compaired to previous cheap dvd recorders I have used this is excellent. Very easy to use and I have had no issues making recordings, I mainly use this for recording from sky.

The quality of the signal passed through the machine to the tv from the sky box is excellent, no issues with color/widescreen flags that I have had before with other cheapo brands.

The dvd recorder plays all the formats that I require and it was good value for money hence why I decided to buy the product. I fully recommend this to anyone. Good value for money.

I bought the dvd recorder through ebay as it was 100 euro cheaper than buying through a retailer. I wanted a dvd recorder so that I could record my childs favorite programes off the t.v. and be able to watch them anytime. Sky wanted 250 euro to upgrade to sky plus which I dont need now.
The dvd recorder is excellent as works like a charm.

I can't say if I like or dislike it as it has never arrived, even after several messages still no recorder ??????

installation easy, instructions easy to understand, easy to use

occasionally the time display has altered seemingly on its own, but overall pleased with item at this moment in time.

i was messed about when is was delivered they sent wrong one the day afer they sent tne right one since then the dvd hasnt worked even though they said it hasnt been tested if you are a tv shop you should check that it works so people dont get rip of cause this is what has happen i paid £35.00 for somthing that only good enough for the tip i decided to buy it as it looked good and could have been worth the money ha ha what a joke ebay should make sure it been checked to stop people being ripped of

I had bid on a previous DVD Recorder and was 'pipped to the post' so, as I wanted a DVD Recorder at short notice, I decided to buy the one I now have on a 'buy it now' basis, as I considered it to be a reasonable price to pay for what I think is a quality product (I also have a Philips TV so they both match!!). The item arrived promptly and in good order and I have enjoyed using it ever since. I consider the Ebay 'buy it now' option to be a very useful alternative as you are then assured of purchasing many items at very reasonable prices.

Bought for a friend, but not very clean condition in spite of description "mint". Door would not open without a disc in it(luckily there is a manual lever underneath. Ironically, I offered the friend a recorder O bought 3 months ago, but this one will not power up at all.I've kept the above and keep a disc in always, its the only way it works.

I cannot make a review about this item because it was never received, it was lost in transit, bad luck to me, I rather say or .......good luck who knows :o(

great dvd recorder you can even connect usb so have backed up my daughters ipod to dvd and you can get over 500 songs including moving on one disc using different rec modes
