A very good recorder only drawback is that if you do not receive a handbook with it takes some time to figure out.

on my 2nd dvd recorder of this model after the first one had a start up problem (which i later found out was common) wouldnt have paid more then 90 quid for this but under 90 is good value. loads of memory space and easy to transfer to disk. only down point is the way its so slow when going through menu sometimes you press a button twice thinking its not registered only to find it has and you pressed it twice grrr. other then that no problems

A sound product. Vision not bad either
Review created: 06/04/09

Generally, I am pleased with this recorder which records and plays more than adequately. There were no instructions with the DVD recorder which, initially, was a bit disconcerting to an electronic ignoramus such as I. However, I easily found full instructions online although it would have been preferable to have had them in book form. Setting up the recorder was quite challenging but I got there in the end.
It is not possible to record digital signals using this equipment although I believe that a set top box might resolve this problem but this seems hardly worth the expense. The seller's advert did make clear that the recorder could only record analogue signals.
The recorder connected without any problem to my surround sound system.
All in all I am more than satisfied with this recorder bearing in mind the price paid.

  Philips Analog Hard Disc Recorder

The overall build quality is good, though start up time takes around 30 seconds.

The machine is easy to connect via AV channel to a freeview box and the TV.

The instruction book is definitely worth reading to get benefit of the more intricate editing uses, and practice is need to perform these readily.

The HDD storage is very useful and you can still transfer to dvd, using fast dubbing.

Unusually for a machine of this price it has a usb front connector, which enables you to connect an external hard drive, but it must be formatted in FAT 32 or it will not read it.

The main disadvantage is that it does not have freeview built in.As the seperate boxes are cheap, this is a cheap way of getting a hard disc and dvd recorder in one,to add to a freeview box.

Overall would I buy this over others, well for the price yes, unless I had the chance of a sony branded one.
