Philips DCP850/37 Portable DVD Player with Screen

Pros - very flexible input options - DivX a real bonus as movies can be copied to a 2GB SD card & battery should then last longer than with a DVD. Handy for viewing photos on the go.
Cons - other players may have better screen sharpness AND it's NOT compatible with the new iPod Classic (only audio works). Not Philips fault as newer ipods apparently require connection to an Apple AV dock or lead before they'll play video.

i bought this item for my son when we are travelling long distance we can have peace & quiet as he is glued to the t.v this dvd player is ideal.So parents who hvae young kids get one ov these it will save you in the long run on headache tablets.

I like the fact that you can watch movies from your ipod video on it thanks to the ipod dock built in to the player, it also charges your ipod whilst on so if you've forgotten your charger that is handy.

Although refurbed the product comes like new and the picture and sound qulaity are both excellent for its size.

I have always steered clear of recon gear with a short gaurantee period but this one was too good to miss. So far so good and I am very pleased with it. Considering it was a third of the retail price and someone must have paid that originally and had to return it what have you got to lose? You only get 12 months with a new purchase anyway unless you buy one of those suicidal extended warranties. i may have revised my opinion of factory recon units after this!

What I really liked was the fact that it arrived really soon...not more tha one week from the time I ordered. The dvd player is what you see on the pictures and I didn't have any bad surprises. It works perfectly and I absolutely do not regret buying it.

It is very light, has several different inputs, swivell screen very useful, can be powered in the car and comes with lead to fit cigar lighter, excellent as we go camping alot!

Very clear screen, excellent picture quality. Un-beatable price.

Can't fault it to be honest, neat little remote control that fits into the player so it wont get lost. Sound quality and volume is more than adequate!

Strongly reccomend buying this, you won't be dissapointed - the best I have had from e-bay!

I bought this for my children for a trip we had planned to Spain,you know to keep the flight tedium to a minimum,I love the fact we are able to use it with the ipod video which incedenty we purchased second hand from eBay and got a bargain.Well needless to say it has now joined my Gadget collection and the kids can only borrow it on special occassions.My son is only three and knows how to operate almost all the functions and we all love the swivel screen.

This is a really special machen I was surprised to find it plays even downloaded episodes.I like the idea of the memory card slot. So you can put episodes on at a time and watch them. The other amazing thing is the ipod capability. But one problem on 5th gen ipod's work. So only a 30, 60 & 80gb ones work. The swivel screen is also a major bonus. Overall an amazing top class DVD player. ENJOY!!

had a couple of cheap portable dvd's players in the past.
It certainly seems better to pay a little extra for a philips. the ipod dock is a great touch!

my son has wanted a portable dvd for so long but we were never sure what to buy but this philips dvd is great its small but the picture is as clear as a bell and its light and very acctactive to look at. also its very clear and the picture is great thanks

Once fully charged the battery does give just over 2hrs playback (Volume set to just below half) as claimed.

The display 8.5" is excellent with good viewing angles from the sides and top. It also twists 180 Degrees, so its easy to set it up any way you like.

Sound is also very good through its dolby digital stereo speakers, and I was thrilled to see that I could connect 2 headphones directly into it - No need for a splitter!

The player also includes an SD Card slot. Although not tested yet, I would think that playing back divx movies on an sd card will save more battery power.

As a bonus, if one has an iPod, it can be connected to the player in place of the remote control.

In conclusion, purchasing this product was totally worth it!

This is a fantastic product. Excellent screen size. Fantastic quality. Great price. Amazing that you can dock your Ipod and watch movies and tv programmes on a bigger screen. I love it!.

great bit of kit, very handy as I have just broken my shoulder. My only complaint
is that it does not go to where you last viewed. Sound and picture quality superb,

I bought it for me daughter, she is 11 months. She watchs her Baby Einstein DVD's.....she loves it! And also i am planning to take it on the plane to go to Argentina! It's very easy to use and also you can attach your IPOD and hear some music! Great item, i do recommend it!

DVD Player with DVix possibility, 2 headphones plugs, SD card socket, quiet big screen, all this - very useful for pair in travel, only one dark side of this equipment is pictures from camera resolution. Don't think that your pictures made with good resolution will be very clear to watch on this player. And I noticed similar situation- with subtitles on the dvd movies- also not very clear. Check how does it look in the shop ( HMV for example ) before you will decide to buy it.

I bought 2 of these Portable DVD players. One for my daughter in U.K & one for my daughter in Australia. They are both delighted. Great purchase as the player can be used in any country & the price is excellent.

THE THING IS THAT I HAVE SENT IT BACK TO THE SUPPLIER AND WROTE HIM AN E-MAIL AND DIDN'T EVEN CONSIDER RESPONDING TO ME ABOUT MY E-MAIL

It really can play all of video, music and pic format that I need. It automatically adds subtitles to movie. But unfortunately I cannot edit subtitle format. Sometimes it is not visible.
And during playing of mp3 format music the actual song artist and title is not showed (ex. right side window should show independently).
Summary, it is really great and easy handled device with some small required improvements.

The main attraction of this product was the iPod connectivity. Watch out here. In recent model of the ipod (I have an 80 GB classic), Apple has encrypted the output signal making a direct playback impossible.
I almost wanted to give the product back, but thanks to Internet forums, I found a workaround.
You need (of course, it's about the money) to buy an Apply TV-out cable, connect to ipod, pause, unplug cable and stick ipod into DCP850 before resuming play.
Once you're there it's quite enjoyable as you can use the remote control and of course the screen.
Other features, like SD card slot are great, too.

Have been looking for sometime, good value. Clear Information, easy to order, able to ask questions and get them answered.

I recently bought this {from a fab ebay company who I'd use again}, and it does everything it says on the box ! It's compact, stylish, user friendly, and the Ipod/remote dock is terrific. Some reviewers have complained that Apple have made the 5G I-pod unusable for video on this dvd player, but if you convert the movie into a file and then list it as a movie, you can get around this {you're welcome !!}. The only possible drawback for us is the white exterior, since we intend to use it whilst camping. Apart from that?.....at around £80 for a first class re-con unit, well, just do it !!
