Early signs of Peggy Lee's future style are intimated in her light and breathy vocals. Her delivery, though emotionally rich, as on "I've Had My Moments" and the moving "Don't Blame Me," lacks the expressive gravity she would possess in a couple of years, though her perfect sense of time is apparent on rhythm specialties such as "Nice Work if You Can Get It." In due time she would mastermind the qualities of emotional projection and rhythmic devices to solidify a powerhouse style that would take her performances to the heights of musical success. Nevertheless, listening to these performances, one recognizes Peggy Lee's embryonic genius.
