Pearl Jam are explosive. Few American bands have arrived more clearly talented than this one did with "Ten" and "Vs." tops even that debut. Terrific players with catholic tastes, they also serve up singer-lyricist Eddie Vedder. With his Brando brooding and complicated, tortured masculinity, he's something we haven't seen in a while ­ a heroic figure. Better still, he's a big force without bullshit, he bellows doubt.

Like Jim Morrison and Pete Townshend, Vedder makes a forte of his psychological-mythic explorations ­ he grapples with primal trauma, chaos, exultation. As guitarists Stone Gossard and Mike McCready paint dense and slashing backdrops, he invites us into a drama of experiment and strife. "Animal," "Daughter" and "Blood," their terse titles urgently poetic, are songs of a kind of ritual passion, tapping into something truly wild.

And when Vedder roars, "Saw things . . . clearer . . . Once you were in my rearviewmirror," it seems that it's not only some personal sorrow that he's willing himself to tear beyond but the entire weight of the past itself.

anyhoo i just love pearl-jam so just buy it and escape to the wonders of pearl jam.

i bet you will get hooked.

Love Pearl Jam, and this is a great album!! All the tracks are enjoyable, and it is certainly well compiled, bringing music to the ears in one continuous flow, making it fantastic to chill out to, drive to, or just have on in the background!! Everyone and anyone would enjoy this cd, not too heavy for some, but with plenty of base and excellent tracks, that will put a smile on anyone's face!!! A must have album for anyone's collection, especially if you like your parties, as this is an album you can happily put on, knowing it will be thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish, without any doubt!!! Top notch!!

If pearl Jam had made video's for some of the songs on this album, I'm sure it would be as famous, if not more so than "Ten", - their debut. As a result, you rarely see these songs on mtv etc, except the occaisional live version (rear view mirror on saturday night live). I think the album really captures the esscence of Pear Jam. "Dissident", "rearview mirror" and "Daughter" are absolute classics, but the whole album is strong throughout. the album is certainly set in the grunge period of the early 90's, but to me pearl jam seem more like a classic rockband, with a grunge mentallity. In some ways its a shame. the lack of video's and overall ethos of the album may mean it will be lost to rock history

the eagerly anticipated second album. Hopes were high after the masterpiece that was the debut 'TEN'.
Whilst lacking the anthems contained in it's predecessor the music is raw and energy driven.
Although 15 years old now still has power and memorable tracks.
Bring back grunge I say.
