As a fan of Paul McCartney I have been looking for this album for a long time. One particular track (My brave face) hails back to the Beatles style of music. The inclusion of the violin 'Beatle bass gives an authentic 1960's sound. I was also pleasantly surprised by the quality of most of the other tracks on the album including a Reggae song that would not be out of place on a Bob Marley album. The standard of McCartney's music has, in my opinion, slipped in recent times, and this may be a reflection on the personal problems that he has had to endure, so it is refreshing to return to the times when he, the love of his life Linda and last but not least, Elvis Costello were clearly enjoying life.

I love Paul Mc Cartney's music I bought this album on vinyl many moons ago but as I don't have a record player now, decided to buy the cd.

McCartney's late 80's collaboration with Elvis Costello
Review created: 03/03/08

This was the last Paul McCartney album that I actually purchased as a vinyl release when it was first issued back in 1989... The album was hyped up way beyond expectations, as the big return to form and featured four tracks co-written by non other than Elvis Costello.. One one level the album definately delivers big style, with tracks such as 'My Brave Face', 'Rough Ride' 'Figure Of Eight'and 'This One' being right up there with the best of the McCartney solo releases... Unfortunately the remainder of the album is not exactly startling... When I first had this album nearly 20 years ago those four tracks were the only ones I played - having listened to it several times since buying it on e.bay - it's still the same four tracks that jump out at me... The only difference for me now is that I'm slightly more tolerant to McCartney's sound than I have been for decades and the rest of the songs are all pleasing in their own way, just not 'special'... The running time on the cd is 56 minutes which indicates that there's more tracks here than on the original vinyl release..
Aswith most of Paul McCartney's back catalogue, you will almost certainly be able to pick this up at a good price on e.bay, for that reason alone it is a worthwhile purchase, even if it is only for the four tracks I've mentioned...++++
