To be honest after Paolo Nutini's first album I had him down as a radio & girl friendly performer, who played safe listenable music, but not my sort of thing!
I changed my view on the guy after seeing him play a couple of tracks on the Jools Holland show (Candy & Coming Up Easy). I was expecting more of the same from his first album, but no I was wrong. When he starting playing I thought "hello this is good, this is really good, where the hell did this come from?" I might be wrong but it sounds like some of his mum & dad's musical tastes have influenced his writing on this album, and maybe some people he met on the tour of his last album along with his excellent band The Vipers? Either way the guy has matured, and I for one look forward to all future work from this gifted singer/songwriter! Saw him at Glastonbury and lets just say I was more then impressed (the ale went down a treat and had to shuffle my feet!), so much so I'm going to Bournemouth in the Autumn to see Paolo and the lads play 10/10, Coming Up Easy, Candy, No Other Way & the rest. Happy days man!

I love Paolo Nutini's very soulful gravelly voice. It's melt in the mouth food for the soul. He has certainly not let us down with this rich new album!

Love this man's voice anyway but this cd is so unlike his rest, shows his voice for what it is-great. I'm glad I bought it, listen to it every day...

Enjoyed listening to the CD. Will listen to it often as I like the style of the music. The more you listen to it the better it gets.

Just one cornetto
) I had already purchased Paolo's first album which i enjoyed, he has a unique tone to his voice, i bought sunny side up after hearing some tracks being played on the radio, this album is very good and shows another up and coming british star at their finest.

The gravely voice of Paolo Nutini applies itself well to the several genres portrayed on this CD. The rhythms of reggae, the power of soul, the fun of thirties-style jazz, the angst of American 60s folk rock. Nutini is capable of many different styles and is effective in each. He is clearly having fun. This CD is a taster that promises even better things to come from this performer

Paolo Nutini Sunny Side UpFirst heard Paolo at Glastonbury. This CD provides a great mix of musical styles from blues, reggae, country, folk and sciffle. Poalo's voice is destinctive and refreshing. A CD that makes you smile. A rare treat in these difficult times. I'll definately be looking out for his earlier material.

Paolo Nutini - Sunny Side Up (2009)Review created: 25/06/09

When I purchased this album I expected to hear another cd full of Nutini ballads and catchy acoustic pop songs. How wrong I was. It is very different to his first album and draws on many different styles of music. The first track (10 out 10) could be off a Bob Marley album, another by Johnny Cash, another by a Ska band. It is a real summer album. The songs are catchy and the tempo is much more upbeat than the first album. There's also a bit more clarity to Nutini's voice on this album - the boy has a very Scottish accent!
Overall a really good album, and one which may be played at alot of BBQ's in the sun this summer. The single Candy is probably the best song on the album for me but the album is worth buying just for the diveristy of the songs alone.
