  As good as the SD-253!

I have been the grateful recipient of many a loaf made using the Panasonic sd-253 and have coveted one for ages. Previously I had a cheaper non-Panasonic model, but that produced loaves which were too soggy and without that bouncy bakery texture....

In researching the Panasonic models, it became apparent that the sd-252 was identical to the 253 in all aspects (motor, design etc) apart from the fact that the 253 had a seed/nut dispenser whereas the 252 does not. Undeterred, and encouraged by the far lower price, I am now the proud owner of a SD-252.

This is an excellent breadmaker - the recipes are clear and concise. Basic cycles are 4 hours long and there is a handy timer. The bread produced is of consistent, excellent (bakery/ hand made) quality. It takes me around 5 minutes to add all the ingredients to the pan.

What about the lack of seed/nut dispenser? Well, I have thrown in seeds and nuts at the beginning of the cycle and they have been well distributed in the final bread. The same with dark chocolate chunks for the most fabulous chocolate hazelnut bread. No problems. Talking to my friends, they say they hardly ever use the dispenser and often (especially for very nutty mixtures) also thrown them into the main pan.

I have no regrets. I make around 3 'plain' loaves for my family a week (usually two wholemeal and one white) and 1 yummy tea time treat.

This is a fantastic breadmaker.

Reliable, easy-to-use and makes delicious bread

Likes:
Ease of use
Reliability (this thing is constructed in a vastly superior way to most other breadmakers. For example, the bread pan is cast, rather than a piece of pressed steel, so the non-stick coating is less likely to peel off and the rivets won't spring a leak)
Quality of the bread produced - delicious!

Dislikes:
Impossible to use the timer on the pizza-dough setting. If I want to set it so that I come home from work to some ready-prepared pizza dough, why does this machine prohibit this? Incidentally, this is the same on all breadmakers I've looked at - I've just no idea why the manufacturers do this!

the machine is great, but the blade gets worn so quickly, it costs quite a bit in the end to replace the blade so often...

It simply replaces the old, scratched one, with a nice new shiny one, that does not get stuck so often.

OK, so it's a lot of cash to pay when you can pick up a cheap bread maker from the supermarket for £20.
But this is an excellent machine. I've been using mine for 8 years, making 2 or 3 loaves per week; that's about 1000 loaves (but no fishes).
I had to replace the pan and blade recently due to the non-stick coating coming off (mainly due to coarse whole-grain flour I used to use).
My only complaint is that the timer is for loaves only. I also use the machine to make naan bread and pizza dough - the timer can't be used on these modes. So you have to start them manually at 2h20min and 45min respectively.

I had borrowed a Panasonic bread maker from a friend of mine before I purchased so I knew what I wanted; however these machines are must less expensive than a new bread maker as they are re-conditioned older versions!

The machine arrived brand spanking new, and in excellent condition! The are EXCELLENT VALUE for money and worth every penny.

The seller was extremely helpful and cooperative! I would highly recommend!!!

I have had this machine for some time now, two years I think. Bought it on a friends recommendation but I though probably one of those things that you use a few times and gradually those times become less and less. Quite the contrary, have hardly bought a shop loaf since we had it, must use it at least four times a week, take it on holiday, what more can you say. Simple to use, endlessly reliable, keep to the recipe once you find a variation from the book that suits and you get the same result over and over again. Brilliant!
