Includes liner notes by Robert Ward, Rich Panse & David Mills. There is nothing in the world like a P-Funk concert. George Clinton and his comrades are the funkiest of the funky and the baddest of the bad. The ensemble plays a tight funk that helps the crowd get loose. Recorded in 1989, LIVE IN L.A. features a multitude of talented musicians, including veteran guitarist Eddie Hazel, who quit the band shortly after this show. All the band members step up to the plate on this record. Ringmaster George Clinton makes his famous stage speeches while "Undisco Kidd" features funkified and jazzy bass (Rodney Curtis) and keyboard (Joseph "Amp" Fiddler) solos. Longtime member Garry Shider shines on guitar with a solo on "Knee Deep." Michael Hampton unleashes a bluesy solo of his own on the nine-minute "Maggot Brain." An 11-minute version of "Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)" shows what a jam session should be. "Why Should I Dog You Out" closes the album and features a medley of Prince, Sly Stone, and James Brown tunes. One of the most influential and heavily sampled artists ever, George Clinton always throws a party onstage, and LIVE IN L.A. is your invitation.
