Tonex's uniqueness is evident on the two-disc live record OUT THE BOX, particularly on his between-song exhortations to the crowd, expressed in of-the-moment, hip-hop-influenced language. It's a fitting connection, as both rap and gospel are based in passion, an emotion fully embraced by Tonex and his R&B-leaning band. As with much spiritual-based music, nowhere is the energy stronger than in a live setting, and this set of performances doesn't disappoint, with more than two hours of sweet praise-oriented songs such as "Make Me Over" and "Believer."
