Album Notes Red Hot Chili Peppers include: Anthony Keidis, Hillel Slovak, Michael Peter "Flea" Balzary, Jack Irons.Producers: Michael Bienhorn, George Clinton, Red Hot Chili Peppers.Includes liner notes by Anthony and Flea.OUT IN L.A. is a compilation of live tracks, extended mixes, demo versions and previously unreleased songs from the vaults of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.Since 1984, The Red Hot Chili Peppers have combined a punk sensibility with a lavish devotion to funk and all its facets. Having already scaled the heights of platinum status after living in the land of obscurity, the Chili Peppers have released OUT IN L.A., a chapter of their lives from when they were still unknown. This collection is broken into four sections: remixes, live tracks, demo versions of existing material, and previously unreleased songs.Remixes include a James Brown flavored "Higher Ground" and an extended take of "Hollywood" that just oozes grooves. Their live rendition of "Castles Made Of Sand" stays true to Hendrix's original while demo versions of "Get Up And Jump" and "Green Heaven" show off the intense interplay between bassist Flea and late guitarist Hillel Slovak. The other major bond in the group is between vocalist Anthony Kiedis and Flea, who are the sole participants on the previously unreleased "What It Is." Also included in time for the holidays is "Deck The Halls" done Chili Peppers style. Editorial Reviews Q Magazine (01/01/1995) NME (11/26/1994) NME (11/26/1994) | |||||||||||
Reviews Review created: 09/09/08 by: Some new and mostly old Chilis songs on this album. Im not a big fan of remixes but the extended version of Hollywood is worth getting. What most people would want to see, i hope, is a collection of songs or bsides that didnt make the albums, this is not that record. It does however take you back to a time when the Chilis were having fun in the studio, noted mainly by the weird variation of Deck The Halls and the song Stranded, about being stranded on a toilet bowl, you do get the sense they were enjoying themselves at the times they recorded some of these tracks. Long since departed are the days of Higher Ground and Get up and Jump, this is a nice reminder of thier earlier, more frantic, fun loving days. Review ID: 10000000008654702 Was this review helpful?
