Fantastic soundtrack of early-90's rock tracks

The soundtrack to the 1994 Brandon Lee gothic-revenge film 'The Crow' is a superb collection of rock tracks which highlight some of the varied and burgeoning sounds of the early-nineties end-of-grunge rock scene. There's the heavy bludgeon of an in-their-prime Pantera's take on Poison Idea's 'The Badge', there's the modern industrial flavour of Nine Inch Nails' cover of Joy Division's 'Dead Souls' and the glorious melody of Stone Temple Pilot's uplifting 'Big Empty'. With some notable contributions from The Cure, Rollins Band, Rage Against The Machine and an awesome track by For Love Not Lisa, the highlight of the show must surely be Helmet's 'Milquetoast', which appeared here shortly before it emerged on their 1994 album 'Betty'. Showcasing all of the cool stop-start riffing, tight-basslines and thunderous drumming which saw them signed to a major in 1992, it was an awesome declaration of their intent for their forthcoming album. The Crow Soundtrack ends with the bittersweet strains of Jane Siberry's "It Can't Rain All The Time" (which of course references some key lines from the film), which it could be argued has a certain poignancy to it in hindsight, if you bear in mind this came along around the time of Kurt Cobain's suicide - which effectively signalled the end of grunge; a music genre noted for it's depressing subject matter and angst-riddled protagonists. Is Siberry's gorgeous vocal suggesting that the days of gloom/rain/darkness (i.e.grunge)are over? And that the selection of tracks on this disc is a marker for more positive musical times to come? Probably not. And yet it fits eerily well for this collection of diverse mid-90's rock diamonds.
