The music is fantastic, but it is only one track..! I bought it thinking that it had tracks like a normal CD. All of the music is there but as a single 59 minute track which makes navigating virtually impossible

I was slightly disapointed in this cd because you cannot skip from one title to the other, I guess it is because it is quite old. I can't complain though because I bought it for only 99p.and all the songs are beautiful just what I wanted

Britain's got talent contestant Hollie Steel sang "Wishing you were somehow here again" from Phantom of The Opera in the final and I wanted to compare her performance with that of an existing commercial release. Sarah Brightman's recording of this song is technically superior, not surprisingly. Hollie Steel struggles a bit with "mattered" and "Shattered" These notes are right at the bottom of Hollie's range. However, Hollie Steel has a more interesting timbre than Sarah Brightman and sings with more passion in the loud parts, yet without excessive vibrato. Hollie Steel wins this comparison because she raises goosebumps but Sarah Brightman doesn't, at least not for me. Unquestionably the music of P.O.T.O. is superb but I am put off by the plot being more sinister than most ghost stories. The song "The Music Of The Night" is particularly disturbing because the Phantom is here seeking to secure Christine's death so that he can have her companionship. Happily the Phantom's plot fails and all seems to end well as far as I can determine from the lyric booklet. In conclusion, I cannot recommend this CD because of the story but I have to admit that the tunes are beautiful, and "Wishing" is an exquisite song hence the high rating.

  Phantom of the Opera CD
Review created: 07/01/07

Phantom of the Opera was deemed to be a classic horror of that time. For me it is a sad and haunting love story. But then I am a romantic at heart.

I read the book first and had put off seeing the stage show for fear it wouldn't meet my expectations. I didn't think a stage show would have the suspense and romance that a book portrays.

My husband and I were married in November this year and treated ourselves to a theatre break in London. Musical Theatre was a new experience for my husband, and we went to see The Phantom of the Opera, but not of course the original cast. Having heard the music many times I thought Michael Crawford to be the best. Although the stage show was great, I still hold that thought and Michael Crawford will always be the Phantom for me.

My husbands 65th birthday was in December and this CD with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman was the obvious choice. The more we here it the more we love it. It transports us back to the theatre where we saw the show and reminds us what a super time we had whilst there.
