Oregon Scientific ATC 2K Flash Media Camcorder

I bought this as it seemed to offer relatively cheap all-in-one solution to the
helmet camera I've been thinking about for a while.
The traditional stuff needs a separate lens, cables, recorder and batteries
where the ATC uses the same batteries and SD cards as my digital camera.

I've used it on a bike event taped to the taillight facing backwards, and on
the handlebar mount they provide facing forward with mixed results .. very good
when things are right.

Things I like:-
cheap, compact, uses same bits as my camera, easy to download results,
upto 1hr of video at maximum resolution & frame rate on 2Gb card,
robust and weatherproof.

Things I don't like :-
limited lens makes exposure poor in dull light, buttons hard to operate,
no viewfinder so you have to guess or do a test to line it up properly,
no remote control so I had to set it recording before going on track,
has occassionally turned itself off and not closed files properly,
vibration can affect it badly .. at the right resonance I had people & bikes
that were S-shaped vertically !

Overall - sure I can get better results with what I now know and
has allowed me to try the idea out without spending a lot.
Impressed at the price but would like to be able to connect a viewfinder
when setting it up.

I found the SD video camera did everything it said on the box. The quality is relatively good considering what it is and the cost (dont expect DVD).

Being waterproof for 3 metres and having sound is great.

I think its a must for any extreme sports junkie. I use it for my moto x, mountain biking and anything else extreme!!

Only down points are if the camera is moved violently ie in mx (road bikes seemed fine) the camera would lose frames and seem quite 'jumpy'. Also the sound would distort again at speed unless you positioned it out of direct wind at anything above 40mph.

compact size, easy to use.
Picture quality isnt great but ok.
wanted a video camera for a track day, only problem is that it has no view finder so i had to set up the mounting bracket, record and then check what i had recorded to see if it was mounted in the right place then adjust mounting bracket and repeat until bracket was positioned correctly! took ages!
camera kept cutting out, tried new memory card and new batteries but still would turn itself off after a couple of minutes, sorted problem in the end by warming batteries under my armpit for 20 minutes and the camera worked fine!
so it was all good in the end.
