This is my third projector now as we head towards better DLP chips things are just getting better and whats more cheaper !

This 720P projector from Optoma is incredible value for money and the colour balance, contast and overall picture quality is in my opinion excellent.

I am now going to upgrade to the new Optoma HD80 which is a 1080P projector.

With Optoma you can't go wrong for the money right now, check them out along with Infocus, also extremely good value.

Without a doubt this is the best purchase i have made. Along with my 3 meter screen my xbox 360 just looks amazing, my PC runs at 1400 * 1050 - looks amazing. No ghosting at all. Also my HD movies are just breath taking, it better than going to the cinema. It doesnt matter what i have played on it everything is just great.

A must buy.........

Fantastic Projector - Optoma HD70 DLP
Review created: 10/04/08
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I decided to buy this so that I didn't have to keep borrowing a friend's projector to have movie nights. I have to say that for the money this is fantastic. I got this for about £410 including shipping and vat and along with a cheap projector screen, I'm getting a 74" widescreen image with it 2.5 metres or so away from the wall.
You may want to calculate distances using the optoma calculator from their website, it is a bit fiddly placing it correctly in the room I have, but once it is set up it is great. The ceiling mount would probably be a lot more useful but I don't have one.
Image quality is superb - colours don't look washed out, very vibrant.
With the curtains drawn it is very very easy to watch a film. It is even viewable during the day, although not really that great at all.
Suddenly at night, the whole picture becomes 10x better.
HD Content at 1280x720 is just superb running through a laptop at 1280x720 using the vga cable. If you increase the sharpness, it looks spot on.

Our 37" LCD at home is obviously better quality overall but for the price, I would go for the projector anyday

It is very quiet for a projector. I have one issue with the focus ring, it is difficult to adjust perfectly, takes a bit of time to work out. The lens cap is really crap but who cares, once it is on, it does end up staying on - u just have to spend a while trying to get it on.

Even SD stuff looks good.
Don't know what else to say. This has kinda been replaced by some newer models that have the same specs but more brightness - i think theyre the hd62 and hd720x but i may be wrong.

It turns on really quickly. Bear in mind, the image projection is slightly higher that where the projector is sitting, which for me is a good thing.
Does up to 2000-3000 hours I think - lamps are around 160 pounds - I've seen other projector lamps for almost double that price. Considering that is 160 pounds spent every 3-4 yrs if you're watching a movie a day, thats pretty amazing. I doubt people would use it every day. I use mine about once or twice a week, so it could theoretically last 7-9 years. By then, the lamps will probably be cheaper or even more likely cheaper to upgrade the projector anyway!

I first considered building a projector at www.lumenlab.com
I did all the research with the benefits primarily being really cheap HID lamps but then realised how difficult it can be and how enormous the projectors are. Also I would probably have broken it during the process of making it and the cost would have been the same if not more to make it.

It comes with HDMI, VGA, S-video, Component and video composite connections as well as a connection for an electric projector screen. It supports all inputs up to 1080i which are then rescaled into the native 1280x720.
I'm happy with my purchase.

  Optoma HD70 DLP Projector Review
Review created: 17/05/09

i decided to buy this projector because i was refurbishing my bedroom, went for a real makover, carpet on the walls, custom desks, excellent sounds, uptodate with the latest gadgets controlling the lights an everything else with one remote ;) an now projecting my laptop an the rest of it on my wall in hd! could it get better?? well i suppose if u went an got urself air conditioning aswell. that would be smart. apart from that, it just down to the lighting :) getting there. bit by bit.

but yea, the projector.....

erm from what ive seen of it in the pictures it looks pretty cool, with its HDMI port on the back ;) lol with its VGA port aswell ;) lol but ye basicly if you havent worked it out, i still havent recieved it yet. so this is an early review. on whats to be expected.......

this projector should be in MINT condition.

with no more than 2mins used on the bulb.

been locked away ina bubblewrap caccoon since last used, for them two minutes.

have 10 spare bulbs because theyr a bitch to buy.

have extra unknown specifications that triple its quality to the type of projectors that are used in michael jacksons house.

be able to blackout porn on an instance where an uninvited guest may walk into your room unounced

that should do it.

ill fill you all in when i recieve it and if it lives upto its expectations.

kind regards.

this projector is top quality for the money..it has very unnoticeable rainbows for a cheap projector and im very sensitive to them..throw distance is very good and is very watchable in a room with some ambient light.pitch blank isn't necessary for watching movies but dose make the experience the best possible.

The HD70 from Optoma is just brilliant. The rang of inputs is just perfect and the picture quality is unbeatable.
HD gaming and films are clean an crisp. More than happy with this and i don't think i could find a TV that could do the job of this projector.
Well done Optoma.
